New Delhi, March 18: In the backdrop of outrage over the rape-cum-murder of a British teenaged girl in Goa, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Tuesday insisted that the state was the “safest” destination for tourists as he briefed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the incident.

“I appeal to all tourists Goa is the safest place and Goans are nice people,” he told reporters after a meeting with Singh where Goa MPs Shantaram Naik and Francisco Sardinha were also present.

Kamat said he was in the capital for some official meetings and felt it was his duty to brief the Prime Minister on an issue which has been figuring prominently in the media.

Scarlett Eden Keeling, the 15-year-old British national, was found dead at Goa’s popular Anjuna beach on February 18.

After Scarlett’s mother Fiona Mackeown suspected foul play in the death, the police swung into action and arrested two persons for drugging, raping and murdering the teenager.

Kamat parried a question on whether the state government had asked the Centre not to extend the Mackeown’s visa. “Our first priority is to handle the case,” he said.

On the case of molestation of a German tourist on Saturday, he said the police have questioned 15 suspects detained on the basis of the description given by the victim.

He said the tourist had wandered off to a secluded place at Cavelossim beach where she was molested by a stranger.

On the rape-cum-murder case, Kamat said the tourist was a minor and her mother should not have allowed her to move around the state all by herself.

“Whenever I go abroad with my family I take ample precaution. I also appeal to the tourists to take precaution when they come in Goa,” Kamat said.

We deserve truth and Reality and not CMs false words by Eldos on 18 Mar 2008

Goa CM has enough reasons to worry. Goa's image is tarnished not just because of the rape and murder of a girl, but also due to the fact that Police tried to cover it up and now Politicians including CM is diverting from the actual issue and even blaming the victims mother. This shows how insensitive, corrupt, unprofessional and manupulative our politicians and the police are.The fact that the victims mother had to intervene to get the case move in the right direction exposes how corrupt and unprofessional Goa's police is. Things are as clear as daylight. Whatever CM says nobody would wanna buy that. What we do not understand is, why is the same Goa police (who told Scarlette was drowned) is investigating it? How can anyone trust them and their investigation? And CMs comments that tourist should take care of themselves is pathetic. Tourists are from different countries and culture, if we can not safeguard their safety, we should not invite them here.

None of the Govts took any action for fear of backlash..

Paedophile Triange by KTVReddy on 18 Mar 2008

Satara-Pune-Goa fast emerging as famous pedophile trinagle=Thaks to few NRIs,hawala money and various land scams.Famous Sahara to Satara scam by vasant/ashok rokade had repercussion as far as wellignton. , her mother Fiona MacKown has been screaming that multiple bruises on the corpse clearly pointed to rape and murder. But cops ignored her, saying the first autopsy established death due to drowning. The incensed mother refused to take her daughter's body from the government morgue. After the report she was going to file a complaint against the police for cover up. The case has exposed the dark underbelly of Goa's otherwise picture-postcard touristy life and revealed a web of crime and drugs involving foreigners. According to police statistics, of the 25 people arrested on drug charges in 2006, 15 were foreigners. The number has steadily risen since 2004, when the first numbers are logged. Even as the second autopsy report was presented to a magistrate, the cops clung to the drowning story. "We are conducting the second autopsy only because we are not satisfied with the first," IGP Kishan Kumar said. The autopsy was conducted by three doctors at Goa medical college and hospital. Kumar also blamed the media for sensationalizing the case and levelling allegations of a police cover up. Worried that bad publicity was hurting the tourist cash cow, Goa tourism minister, Francisco X Pacheco on Saturday demanded strong action against Anjuna police station in charge, Nerlon Albuquerque and doctors who had conducted the first autopsy.

Goa has become Drugs, Prostitution , corruption and all sorts of evil state. There is no doubt about it. Let Goan Politicians say what they want. It is because they are responsible. Goan Politicians are not qualified nor experienced in any field but to run a Country bar. They cannot run a state. They just cannot do it . Moreover they are all corrupt. Goan people today remember the old days of Portuguese people and their rule. Goans do not want so called Democracy. We believe Indian Democracy is the Democracy of Fools.
