Kolkata, February 22 His parents had gone to Delhi to look for a job and a new life. They found death.

Today, three-month old Razibul, christened Goltu by the AIIMS staff, is back in his late father’s family at an impoverished north Bengal village. And he finds himself flooded by offers for adoption, and a new life.

Goltu’s paternal grandparents — Saharuddin and Rahimabibi — wish to keep themselves occupied meaningfully by bringing up Goltu.

Mastul, brother of Goltu’s father Aukhid Ali, today brought the baby back to the family. Aukhid died in a road accident in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Sunday, prompting his depressed wife Dalia Biwi to commit suicide the following day.

Mastul, who had been working in the Capital for some time, wanted to adopt the baby, too. Unaware of all the commotion, Goltu became the star of Samuktala village in Alipurduar sub-division of Jalpaiguri district as Mastul got off the Brahmaputra Mail. The entire village seemed to have turned out to meet the child.

“We will bring up the child,” Rahimabibi said. “We have nothing to do now; we will spend the rest of our lives with Goltu.” The family has no land and work as daily wage earners.

Dalia’s mother Khoteja Biwi also turned up at Dakshinpara today; she, too, wanted to adopt the child.

“Dada (Aukhid) had gone to Delhi earlier and earned some money,” Mastul said. “But this time, fate had it otherwise.”

Aukhid’s father Saharuddin said: “He had gone in search of a livelihood. Who knew that this would happen?”
