Chandigarh After the King of Pop Michael Jackson moonwalked to heaven on June 25, thousands of his fans have been thronging music stores in the city, buying his albums in a bid to cling to the pop star’s memories.

So much so that Michael Jackson CDs and VCDs are flying off the shelves, leaving manufacturers no time to keep up with the rising demand.

An employee of Music World says: “Thriller and Michael Jackson: King of Pop are the most sought after albums here. Since his death, the demand has risen sharply. I was really looking forward to his world tour.”

Vishnu, a student of DAV-10, says he has every song ever released by the singer. “Everyone in my family is addicted to his music. His death came as a rude shock,” he says.

MJ’s most popular songs among the residents seem to be Thriller, They don’t care about us, Black or White, Heal the World and Beat it.

And there is no age bar when it comes to liking his music.

The young and old alike are thronging stores to get their hands on the CDs available.

Arun Kumar, employed as a salesman in Deepak Radios, says: “The sales of MJ albums will keep increasing now. Fans, as young as 12 years, are also flocking to stores for Jackson’s albums because of all the hype. MJ always had a regular fan base in the youth but the elderly too are now showing interest.”

Vinod Sharma of Music Corner, Sector 17, says: “Jackson died too soon. He had a lot more to give. An artiste’s death triggers a lot of interest in his work and thus, the sales zoom up. People have already started demanding the yet to be released CDs and DVDs.”
