Singh said despite being in power for over a year, the Akali Dal-BJP government had not fulfilled its promises, including granting a divisional status to Rupnagar.
He urged Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to take steps in this regard.
Singh was interacting with mediapersons at the local Canal Rest House in Rupnagar.
Sant Ajit Singh said he had no love for the MLA’s chair and would prefer to sacrifice it if the promises made to the people of the area were not fulfilled.
Last year, immediately after assuming office, Chief Minister Badal had announced the divisional headquarters status to Rupnagar during the Holla Mohalla festival. He had also announced the acceptance of various other demands of the area.
However, these demands have not been implemented so far. “This has caused resentment among the residents, who are feeling cheated by the government,” said Singh.
