Govt Arts College to participate in UN population fund awards

Chandigarh, January 17 The Government College of Arts, Sector 10 will participate in the United Nations Population Fund- India (UNFPA) Arts for Social Change Awards: First National Painting Competition 2008.

The event is being organised by Center for Media Studies in association with the College of Arts, New Delhi. Ten GCA students will also participate in a visual campaign against female foeticide.

The contest is open to final year students of Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) courses.

Shweta, a researcher at the Center for Media Studies said, “ Artists are creating commercially viable products. The young people have potential to bring about change.”

The event aims at generating public discourse on the positive portrayal of women and to raise awareness about female foeticide. Entries for the competition can be submitted till February 29.

The first prize carries a cash award of Rs 50,000. The second and third prize also carries a cash award of Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Fifty nominated paintings will receive cash awards worth Rs 5,000.
