Govt has nothing to hide on 2G spectrum: Moily

Chennai Accusing the opposition of adopting ‘undemocratic’ methods by stalling proceedings in Parliament, Government on Sunday said it has nothing to “suppress” in 2G spectrum allocation and that it was prepared for a debate on the issue.

“The opposition has chosen to stone and run away... stall Parliament. This is undemocratic method. We have nothing to hide and nothing to suppress. We have a Prime Minister of impeccable character and integrity,” Veerappa Moily, Union Law Minister, told reporters at the airport in Chennai.

The Government was prepared to discuss the issues raised by the opposition, he said, adding that “more than the Joint Parliamentary Committee, Parliament is the highest forum.

“We are not running away from debate and we are ready to debate and ready to interact with the opposition and anyone...the right forum is Parliament,” Moily said.

Asking the opposition, which is adamant on its demand for a JPC probe, to face a debate in Parliament, he said they were just “throwing stones and running away. This is not correct.”

Replying to a question, he said “If there is any culprit to be brought to book we are open...that can be discussed in Parliament,” Moily said.

To a question on Congress-DMK alliance in the light of the spectrum controversy which led to the exit of A Raja from the Union Cabinet, Moily said it was very strong.

Nothing to hide? by agosuke on 23 Nov 2010

If nothing to hide, then why not JPC? Mr. Moily has to explain why they are opposing the JPC.

All Scams to be Investigated by Ram on 22 Nov 2010

Mining leases, 2 G spectrum, etc., all should be investigated and the perpetrators to be prosecuted expeditiously. This will ensure the country has the revenue to spend for infrastructure. My personal feeling a bloke like Modi should be the prime minister and the revenue collection will improve.

Bigger Scam than 2G by rajendra on 21 Nov 2010

2G is a small scam. Mining licence allocation/renewal without competitive bidding is much bigger: a loss of Rs 6 lac crore or more to the nation. Take tiny state of Goa: Miners profit Rs 20000 crore annually and the leases are given almost free. If these licences were auctioned, the government could reap in Rs 1 lac crores in Goa alone.

Parliament discussion has no meaning by Chandrakant Marathe on 21 Nov 2010

Mr. Moily what have we gained as a nation after discussing Bofors, Anderson and Bhopal Gas tragedy, 1984 Sikh riots pupetrated by congressmen , Mayawati, Fodder Scam of Lalu, Natwar Singh, and many more. Decades have passed but Indian parliament, CBI, CVC, judiciary just keeps investigating and passes its time and life expectency. We need action and punishment to wrong doers and not just debates. If you are clean then why are you afraid of a JPC?

The joke on the 2G scandal. by Venkat on 21 Nov 2010

The latest joke doing the rounds on Mr. Manmohan Singh's protracted silence on the 2G scandal: Manmohan Singh after a long silence on the 2G scandal states that he knew only two things on 2G....... a) Sonia G and b) Rahul G.

Nothing to cover itself with by R.Ramachandran on 21 Nov 2010

Instead of saying that Government has nothing to hide, I would like to put it the other way - Government has nothing to cover itself with.

Prompt UPA to act and oblige for a JPC by Madan Menon Thottasseri on 21 Nov 2010

Please understand that the current embargo at parliament is not a small issue to be just discussed. Moily has to come of the shell wholeheartedly, prompt UPA to act and oblige for a JPC which will empower the Parliament more than a court to fish out facts behind the scam. Please stop brainwashing people including blind supporters of Congress party or UPA alliance. You should know that more and more amongst them are every reason to say good bye!

Moily to become a victim to save PMO? by Madan Menon Thottasseri on 21 Nov 2010

Minister Moily, are how come you a professional can comment this way? I have admired for your certain unbiased opinions for comments, viz. proposal for stand-alone laws for industrial disasters especially on the backdrop of verdict on Bhopal tragedy disaster and also on nuclear bill issues despite lapses from various corners from the UPA regime. You have no self-respect at this time when the PMO had attempted to pass bucks to your ministry by distorting information and the wordings of the letter sent by Dr. Subramaniam Swamy. Are you going to become a victim to save the image of P.M or P.M.O?

2G HIDING by J P Shah on 21 Nov 2010
