At least on seven hydel power projects of the state, including the revised cost of electricity generation is much higher than the original cost. From the original cost of Rs 14, 814 crore on the construction of seven power projects, the revised cost is coming out to be Rs 15, 348 crore. On the power projects of Baglihar, Pakul Dul, Bursar, Uri II, Kishengaga and Nemo Bazgo, the expenditures have gone up considerably from the original project cost. In fact the work has also got delayed on these projects.
As per the information which was provided to the State legislative assembly by the government in reply to the question of one of the MLAs, on Saturday, the government revealed that while the work was yet to start on the Pakul Dul and Bursar hydroelectric power projects, on the other power projects of Uri and Kishenganga, it will be completed by December 2010, 2017 respectively. While on the Nemo Bazgo and Chhutak power projects the work will be completed by the end of next year. However from the original cost of Rs 14, 814 crore on these projects so far the government has been able to spend only Rs 1, 825 core.
Jammu and Kashmir government also said that from the Prime Minister’s reconstruction package of Rs 24,000 crore, under the state sector in the reconstruction plan the state has received Rs 3, 481 crore. On strengthening of the transmission and distribution network in the state, from the Rs 1,180 crore funds received only Rs 419 crore has been utilized. About the utilization of funds on other projects, from Rs 119 crore the utilization has been Rs 66 crore on the construction of access road to Sawalakote project. On the widening of the Ramban-Dhamkund road, from the Rs 35 crore funds received, the utilization of funds has only been to the extent of Rs 11 crore. On the construction of 24 degree colleges, State has spend Rs 39 crore from Rs 98 crore funds it received under the Prime Ministers reconstruction plan, while as on the setting up of 14 women Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) from the Rs 45 crore only Rs 23 crore have been spent. On the development of model villages in the state, from the available funds of Rs 142 crore the utilization of funds has been to the tune of Rs 125 crore. From the state sector funds for the construction of two room sets, from the received funds of Rs 248 crore, the utilisation of funds has been to the tune of Rs 18 crore.
