Chandigarh, January 11 The UT Vigilance Department today arrested Amar Singh, Lecturer in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22 A, who was teaching Mathematics in school, allegedly on the basis of a fake MSc (Maths) degree issued from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar.

Acting on the complaint lodged by DPI (Schools) S K Setia, the UT Vigilance had registered the case against Amar Singh on charges of cheating, fraud and forgery yesterday.

However, Singh, in his clarification given to the officials of Education Department, had mentioned that he had no information about his degree being fake. He had maintained that he had appeared for the examination conducted by the University through correspondence and in case the degree is fake, then the University has to be blamed for the same. The issue came to light last month, when Singh’s case was reported by a certain section of media, following complaints lodged against him by certain people to the UT Education Department. The department had also sent its officials to Bihar to verify the matter and ascertain the truth.

After getting the preliminary inquiry conducted, DPI (Schools) S K Setia referred the matter to UT Vigilance and lodged a written complaint against Singh.
