Chandigarh, February 10 The UT Education Department is coming up with hi-tech gymnasiums and beauty salons in two of its government schools that would also act as training institutes of vocational courses. It is learnt that professionals from leading beauty salons in the city would be invited to impart training at these institutes.

Education Department officials have estimated to set up the institutes at the cost of around 50 lakh. The government schools which have been identified for the development of institutes include Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 46 and Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 37.

Both the schools would have one beauty salon and one gymnasium each. The gymnasiums would be open for both government as well as private school students.

The Director Public Instructions (Schools), S K Setia said, “We already had these plans in pipeline and now we are executing the same. Salons are being set up to impart vocational training courses while gymnasiums will improve physical activity of the school students.”

Students from any government school can access gymnasiums and salons. The department has also formed a team to get details of the products required for beauty salons and gymnasiums.

The department will also contact architects to ascertain the approximate cost of the projects.

Further, the Education Department officials informed that experts who would be called from leading beauty salons in the city would be paid around Rs 2,000 for delivering lectures.

Setia said, “We want to bring government school students at par with private school students so we have decided to provide these facilities to them.”
