"If there is strong evidence, we will arrest both Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi," Patil, who also holds the Home portfolio, said.
He said the police are capable of handling the situation in the event of Raj's arrest and the government was not afraid of arresting the MNS chief.
The state government has sent a report to the Centre on the action taken and arrests made in connection with the recent incidents of violence in the city, he said.
The Centre had expressed its satisfaction over the action taken by us, Patil said.
Patil also said that he had not received any report from the Advocate General so far.
"If there is any such report, it will be sent to the police commissioner and not to me," he said.
Appealing to the people to maintain peace, Patil said violence was only a byproduct of politics between two parties.
"This has led to straining of relations between Maharashtrians and North Indians," he said.
He pointed out that out of 12 crore Maharashtrians, 2 crore live outside the state.
"The constitution gives right to every citizen in the country to live in Mumbai," he said.

The problem is the biased MUMBAI police. These people are ineffective under riot like situations because of their regional bias. The only solution is for the centre to permanantly station CRPF battalions in Mumbai, for communal situations. Mumba police can still be in charge of local conditions like thefts robberies, extortion threats etc BUT DEFINITEY NOT COMMUNAL SITUATIONS.Until this is done the same drama of 1993 or Thakre's nonsense of ow will continue. Proof is Proof. Prefixing it with strong is the excuse to justify his release on the basis of " strong proof" not available. Yes, Bal Thackeray’s Shiv Sena or his fellow Goonda Raj Thackeray’s Mahabharat Navnirman Sena have lost their relevance long back. The image of the Senas in the general public is that they are intemperate in their condemnation of their perceived enemies, a readiness to resort to street methods; organising bandhs, vandalising offices of their opponents and beating up or manhandling suspected individuals.It decides what is the flavour of the season, first the Communists, then the South Indians, the Udipi hotelwalas, the Gujaratis, the Muslims and now Bangladeshis, Biharis, UP bhaiyyas. They have to invent perceived enemies to retain their presence. To change this image is to change their very soul, they are condemned by destiny to remain in this ditch. The moderates realize this and fear the erosion of its popularity and its constituency, the middle class unemployed Maharahtrian youth. The older generation, who prospered are unwilling to pursue the same line knowing fully well that mindless violence will only bring ruin to themselves in the long run. In the meanwhile, the world around has changed. Globalisation, the telecom and internet revolutions have changed the lifestyles of those that they seek to represent. No longer is a middle class Maharashtrian youth willing to opt for the kind of jobs that the Senas wish to fight for;poorly paid jobs in the Govt run institutions. Their agenda like the Mee Mumbaikar does not gel with its image of a street fighting outfit. The future for these Senas is bleak indeed.
