RLD has three MPs in the Lok Sabha and its support to the UPA is crucial in the confidence vote.
After a meeting of the Union Cabinet, Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters that the decision to name the airport at Amausi as 'Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport' will honour the sentiments of the people and will also be a befitting tribute to the late Prime Minister.
Asked about the timing of the decision ahead of the trust vote, Chidambaram said a request from the Uttar Pradesh government was pending for quite some time and the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took the decision.
He said Chaudhary Charan Singh was as eminent freedom fighter and farmers' leader.
When asked by media persons whether the decision will help the UPA government in the floor test, a senior cabinet minister quipped "it will facilitate better take offs and landings".

Congress bribed Ajit Singh of RLD, with Lucknow Airport name. The airport was named after Ajit Singh's father Charan Singh. Manmohan Singh is an honest person, and an honest person does this types of harakiri to save his minoroty govt and the promise to Bush. Congress can do anything to stay in power and control the nation. I am sure, Congress will declare Emergency if they loose vote of Confidence. Indira did that when Allahabad Highcourt disqualified her due to fraudulent means, and todays Congress is worst than Indira's time.
It is very shameful that Ajit singh forgot so fast that his father (charan singh, former PM of india) govt was pulled down by this Congress in 1977, in less than 6 months of his father formed the govt with the outside support of congress.

First, non-congress, non-royal-family govt was formed in independent India after emergency, which was headed by Desai and many former congress people. Govt was pulled down by the personal greed of Charan Singh and sanjay Gandhi. This is how Charan singh is remembered by many patriotic indians, which secular congress is trying to glorify in national interest?

I is unfortunate to see BJP is keeping quite, it was same BJP who actually initiated the N deal. If they would have supported all these horse ridding, trading of MLA and now this Air port would have not happend. I bet, once BJP comes to power they would go a head with the same N deal with cosmetic ammendments.
