The parties, which provide crucial outside support to the Congress-led dispensation, alleged that the government has surrendered itself to market speculators.
Amid fears that inflation may cross double digit mark in the coming days, CPI(M) senior leader Nilotpal Basu said the country's economic scenario was "very, very critical" and that only a paradigm shift in policies would help.
"The price rise is primarily due to weakening of the public distribution system and policies regarding to food economy. The government is dancing to the tunes of market speculators and public stock brokers," Basu said.
"We don't think the government is taking earnest steps to control the situation. There are only half-hearted and incomplete measures," he said.
Basu, a CPI(M) Central Committee member, said the "neo-liberal" economic policies pursued by the government was the cause for the present economic crisis.
He said the government has "failed" to make it clear that the rising oil prices in the international market was due to speculative trade by global traders and did not adopt any measure to check it.
Attacking BJP, he said, the opposition party was only making "hollow statements" on the issue and they were pursuing the same economic policies as that of the Congress.
CPI National Secretary D Raja said rising inflation was a cause of "serious concern" and the government's "so-called" fiscals measures have not provided any relief.
"Our current policies are leaning towards market forces and the government is not doing enough to contain the situation," Raja said, adding "there is a sense of complacency in the government".
Questioning the methodology of ascertaining inflation, he said the government arrives at figures based on the Wholesale Price Index.
"Inflation figures might be much more as government never takes into account the price of a commodity in the retail market. They calculate the figures based on WPI from which we cannot arrive at the correct picture," he said.
Inflation touched 8.75 per cent by May end, the highest during the UPA government's tenure, mainly due to rising prices of food items and vegetables.
The rising prices of milk, pulses, spices, fruit and vegetables continued to pose a major challenge to the Manmohan Singh government in an election year even as Finance Ministry in tandem with the Reserve Bank of India is taking monetary measures to tame inflation.

What a hypocratical observation by Left by being in the Govtt and not willing to withdraw support but only retain the right to criticise/v n ramachandran/nj/usa
Left they are looking only for next Election not at ant sympathy to the public we can not blame the Govt. the Govt.is doing their maximum Infkation it is not only in India it is International level what is in China what is in Usa all Countries are suffering because of price increase of the items this all because of OIL 4,YEARS BACK THE OIL WAS 35$ today it is in 139$ so what we will do we can not blame only Govt.Left and Opposition they are looking only the votes so that they are saying like that.
It is time for Indian public and voters to realise that left and communists are playing a double or triple game and fooling the public and voters for so many decades. The left wants to enjoy power with congress and UPA and when they find the UPA policies are anti-people, they start blaming the UPA government loudly. If they are so concerned about anti-people actions of UPA, and if they care so much for common man, why are they not withdrawing support to congress-led UPA? Because left and communists want to keep the cake and eat it too at the same time. Indian public has to throw the communists to dustbin like in Europe and Russia and save India from disaster and to make India s super power. Communist and their parties are the number one enemy of indians and India as a whole.See how they have made UPA dance to the tunes of China and how they have gifted Nepal, the only hindu country and Tibet, the peaceful buddhist country, to the wolves, China!
One wonders why is the Left continuing its support to the UPA even now? Criticism all the time useless; let them do very good exemplary state governance, operate their brilliant economists and technocrats brains, show some very concrete results in a few spheres at least in W.Bengal and prove that they have far better public administration skills and competence. Can they catalogue immediately a few of such achievements. Are they ready to cut the various taxes and duties to zero on petro products in W.Bengal, for example to help the common people there and thereby set a very good example? How one wishes the Leftists were ruling at the Centre so that one could see how they are able to contain the inflation, high food prices, fuel hikes, upping our nuclear reactors working efficiency levels etc. They have the option to take full-hearted measures on all these matters.Pl.withdraw support or get going fast internally in a very positive way.
Chahu aor byapt andher raj, kare traahimaam janta tamaam dega prachand o tujhko dand, congress papi sambhal, kar na koi bhul Zo paap tera hudd se barhega, aake girega Shankar ka shool Zo paap tera hudd se barhega, Sansad me khilega Kamal ka phool
Communism infection is more dangerous than AIDs. Beware from Communism disease.
These commies are cartoons of India who doesnt require animation, they are handfully available on TV channels and abundantly found in WB,Kerala and Tripura. They cry but dont try. Experts at barking loud cannot do anything where they get chance. Always anti Indian by policy and practice and behaviour.May all voters get good sense to vote out them to extent of eradication from Indian Political scene.
A half hearted alliance resulting into half hearted actions. Cong's push on terrorism, nuclear deal, infrastructure, curbing price rise, left's threat to withdraw the support, other alliance partner's cooperation to MMS on N deal....all half hearted. Yes they have poured there heart out in minority appeasement, dividing India on caste, community, making commom man suffer on each and every count , improing lawlessness(even kids r not safe) and distributing hard working tax payer's money as freebies for securing votes
The left is the bunch liars. On side they supports the UPA get all the divident they are suppose get as their black mail of UPA. Left enjoys the bnefits like....the UPA saved their arse for the crimes against the people in Nandigram and extra money and projects for WB. But now that elections are at the corner they are bussy to make them look with people! Their hypocracy reahces to the high when them blame BJP! Dear commis its your support to UPA that keeps government in Center doing what they are doing,so take responsiblity for your on wrongs.
Brain dead Bengalis and Keralits will vote for these Chinese agents. To keep Chinese agents out decimate Congress and vote enmass for BJP.
This inflation is a created one due to heavy subcription Congress party has taken from the business men for the coming assembly and Lokshabha elections. Business men are recovering that subcription by increasing the price from the pocket of common men. Hence it is not surprise that Govt. is halfheartedly trying to control it.
HEllo everybody, left is like a Barking Dog and it never bites, always make noise whether matter pertaining to Nuclear Deal with US or Price Rise. they shout like they are so much concern about the common mass.MY REQUEST TO THESE SO PSUEDO COMMUNIST LEADERS HAVE GUTS PULL THE SUPPORT, if you cannot, pl. sit quitly.
If Left is so concerned about price hike and government’s inability to control the inflation then they have a simple option of pulling out of the government. This rhetoric of mere criticism is not going to lure voters. Left parties are part of this government and supporting it so take this failure on chin and stop being hypocrites.
