According to the police, they received information that Deepchand Gupta (36), a scrap dealer from Kolsewadi in Kalyan, had purchased a hand grenade. He was arrested on Friday under the Explosives Act. His interrogation revealed that he had purchased the hand grenade from one of his customers. The police traced the house from where Gupta bought the hand grenade as scrap, and it turned out be that of More.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Prashant Burde, More retired from the Indian Army in 1980. He was working with the Army Supply Corps in Gaya, Bihar. More told the police that he was given the grenade by one Vaze, also an ex-armyman, in 1980 when they were posted together in Bihar. It was meant for killing fish, but never used and was kept in his store room, he told the police. Last week, when his wife was clearing out the scrap, it was sold to the scrap dealer along with other scrap, he claimed.
“Fortunately, More had removed the fuse wire and detonator from the grenade,” said Senior Police Inspector Kishore Jadhav of the Crime Branch. “Since Vaze retired in 1980, it is difficult to get his address immediately. But we have approached the Army service board for his address after which we can trace him,” Jadhav said.
