New Delhi, January 25 With the intelligence warning about possible terrorist strikes, a massive ground-to-air security system will be in place in the Capital tomorrow for the Republic Day celebrations.

Around 20,000 security personnel, along with commandos of the ITBP and Delhi Police, will be deployed across the Capital. Snipers will be deployed at all high-rises along the parade route. A multi-layer security ring will be put in place at Rajpath.

“Special emphasis is being laid on anti-sabotage checks, access control measures and intelligence coordination. The entire parade route will be covered by special security and anti-terror arrangements,” Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Qamar Ahmed said. "Elaborate air defence measures, including deployment of anti-aircraft guns, have also been taken to check intrusion of air space," he added.

Three choppers of the Indian Air Force will hover around Rajpath and all along the parade route. The Capital will be made a no-fly zone during the parade. There will be no Metro services of trains that pass near the main venue, Rajpath, in the morning. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed near Ring Road and in areas touching New Delhi.

“All intelligence agencies are keeping an eye on the threats. A coordination mechanism with Army, NSG, Intelligence Bureau and Delhi Police has also been constituted,” Ahmed said.

Delhi Police has also launched special drives to check possible hideouts and shelters of terrorists and have been conducting joint raids at several locations with UP and Haryana Police. Patrolling in crowded market areas have been intensified while checking and frisking in Metro, railway stations, cinema halls and bus terminals have been tightened. Security at the IGI airport has also been strengthened.

The borders will be sealed from 11 pm tonight to 1.30 pm tomorrow and vehicles entering into the city will be subjected to heavy checking. All property dealers and second-hand car dealers were asked to furnish details about their recent deals and pass on information especially about customers from outside the state. Cyber cafe owners were directed to maintain the records of all e-mail users.

People can call up at special help line number 1090 to give any information.
