Called the Green Revolution, the group was formed on behest of stenographer Pradyumna Keni who had participated in the marathon last year. "When the marathon was announced, I had intended to run; but other staff members also showed interest and we decided to participate as a group,” he said.
The message of global warming was also suggested by Keni who has been reading and researching on the topic. “It is a serious issue, but there is little awareness on the subject in Mumbai. When I talk about global warming in the train, people show little interest. We hope to create awareness by running the marathon,” he says.
The group will be wearing green tracks and carry messages such as ‘Save the planet, save the Earth.’
Head clerk Pramod Shinde is confident of completing the dream run. “I am just jogging and preparing myself for the run. There is no particular diet to follow, but the 7-km run is easy for me,” he said.
The civic corridors are already abuzz with the talk of the staff of the municipal secretary department — which prepares papers and documents of policy decision of the city — who will run the marathon. The mayor and corporators have appreciated the move.
Keni, who had won the second prize for best costume last year, is hoping to get some recognition this time as well. “We would like to get the award from the mayor,” he said.
