Mumbai, March 8 The CN Wadia Gold Cup, run in the memory of the great visionary who was responsible for the development of the Mahalaxmi Race Course, is the main event of the Mumbai Races to be held on Sunday. Though there are seven contenders lined up for the event to be run over a distance of 2400 metres, Spinoza and Gurezi look better than the rest and the two are expected to fight the final battle.

Five-year-old mare Spinoza had beaten Gruezi narrowly in last two occasions but Gruezi seems to be in right frame to avenge those defeats this time.

The Wadia Cup will offer a purse of Rs 1.3 million, the richest in its history. As usual Mrs Maureen Wadia, the moving force behind the event, will showcase her Gladrags models with a fashion preview and will top it with the unique and hugely popular children’s song and dance show. The Bravery Awards for the physically challenged will add a sombre touch and will be presented to children from the Bai Jerbai Wadia Children’s Hospital in the paddock.

There are nine races tomorrow and the first will start at 1.45 p.m.

What’s on offer
Those who bet Rs 300 on tote will be given a Contest of Skill form where one would need to nominate first three finishers in the CN Wadia Gold Cup Million race. A Maruti Zen car is up for grabs here as a tip prize. The consolation prizes here will include trips to Go Air destinations and hampers from Bombay Dyeing.
