Guards held for letting thieves into company

Pune, August 16 The crime branch of Pune police arrested three private guards for allegedly helping criminals in the theft of turbo chargers and other spare parts worth Rs 40 lakh from Cummins Company in Kothrud. Two burglars were also arrested.

Spare parts worth Rs 20 lakh were stolen from the company on July 6; the company’s store-in-charge, Amit Ramesh Chavan, had lodged a complaint with the Kothrud police. The crime branch was conducting parallel investigations.

Acting on a tip-off, a crime branch team led by inspector Sunil Pawar arrested burglars Wilson Satyavan Reddy (42) of Citadel Society, B T Kawade Road, and Dilip Subrao Shinde (40) of Wadgaon Budruk, from the Moshi toll naka on Thursday.

During interrogation, the burglars said they have been stealing spare parts from Cummins Company for the last three years with the help of three security guards there. Later, guards Ranjit Shankar Patil (22), Harshwardhan Piraji Pawale (36) and Uttam Jalwani Dhale (32) were arrested. The police said that the accused were paying the guards for their help.
