New Delhi, February 18 A 31-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her house in Rohini Sector 11 on Monday afternoon. According to the police, the assailants seem to have posed as meter readers from the Delhi Jal Board and taken the victim unaware.

North West district Police has registered a case of murder and are looking for the assailants.

The incident took place at around 12.30 pm when some youths entered Chitra Sharma’s house in the H Block and asked her for the keys to the water meter lock. Chitra told the youths, reportedly in the age group of 20 to 25 years, that keys were with the family residing on the first floor. According to police information, she then asked her neighbour Kamlesh to throw the keys down.

After Kamlesh gave her the keys, the assailants asked Chitra for some water to drink. They apparently followed her into the bedroom and stabbed her with a sharp edged weapon. They murderers then dragged the body to the bathroom and ransacked the house.

Chitra’s body was noticed by her four-year-old daughter, Radhika, who returned from school at around 1.30 pm. Her two-year-old twins sons were reportedly sleeping in the house at the time. Her husband, Mukesh Sharma, is a transporter and runs five taxis from Sharma taxi stand, a few metre from the house.

“Everything lay scattered and the cupboards had been emptied out. Chitra’s jewellery was missing,” said Kamlesh. The police said that robbery appeared to be the motive, but are also exploring the personal enmity angle.

Man stabs wife in Tilak Nagar
In another incident on Monday, Jitender Singh stabbed his wife Jyoti (24) at their Shahpura Mohalla (Tilak Nagar) residence. The police said Singh suspected his wife of infidelity.

The police received a call at around 3.30 am and when they reached the house, Singh himself handed over the knife and surrendered and confessed to his crime. Singh told the police that he got married with Jyoti two years ago and the couple had a son.

“We had regular tiffs. She had an affair with somebody else,” Singh told the police.

However, the victim’s aunt, Pushpa, alleged that Singh used to harass her for dowry and thrashed her regularly. An SDM inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
