According to city-based activist Rohit Prajapati, who filed a petition against the state government for dumping of the waste in Ankleshwar, no representative of the Gujarat government was present during proceedings in the Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 10.
The High Court had earlier sought an explanation from the Gujarat government, which after issuing a no objection certificate on several occasions, withdrew the permission to incinerate the waste in Ankleshwar.
Prajapati also alleged that the Gujarat government is not making its position clear on the issue, as it has on one side, tried its best to show that it is environmentally conscious. But on the other hand, it has carefully sidelined itself from the issue.
“It has left the Madhya Pradesh government in a mess,” he said.
He also questioned the ruling of the MP High Court, saying that a High Court cannot instruct the government in another state. He added that any kind of instruction has to come from the Central government or the Supreme Court.
In the ruling, the High Court issued a notice to the MP government to find a suitable transportation for the waste from the factory.
March 13 has been fixed as the next date of hearing.
