Chandigarh, February 26 The SGPC has filed an affidavit saying that its effort would be to make gurbani available free of cost on all platforms. The Punjab and High Court has further directed the SGPC to file a detailed affidavit for further proceedings in this regard.

Earlier, Tata Sky limited had filed a petition against the TRAI demanding level playing field and permission to telecast gurbani. Reviewing the petition, a Division Bench comprising Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Vijender Kumar Jain and Justice K S Ahluwalia had expressed regret and shock over the commercialisation of gurbani and subsequently directed the SGPC to file a reply and decide over the issue. After contemplating the issue, the SGPC has made it clear now that gurbani would be available on every platform including cable, DHS and Tata Sky. Meanwhile, Tata Sky maintained that the consumers would not be charged for gurbani.

Notices to Mann on plea seeking stay on bail

The High Court has issued notices to Simranjit Singh Mann on the basis of a petition filed by the Punjab government, challenging the blanket bail being awarded to Mann.

On January 9 this year, Mann was given a blanket bail by the High Court, along with directions that a seven-day notice be issued to Mann before arresting him.

The same was challenged by the Punjab government.

Mann had earlier moved the High Court seeking ‘blanket bail’.

He had stated that nearly 60 cases had been registered against him, which seems to imply his false implication in other cases.

Mann sought directions from the court to ensure that a notice be issued a week prior to his arrest, if he is booked under fresh charges.

Thesame had been granted by the court.
