Gurgaon, January 11 Udyog Vihar entrepreneurs held a silent demonstration in front of the HSIIDC office today to protest the ongoing power crisis in Gurgaon.

While Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) claimed the industrial areas are supposed to have around 7.5 hours of power cuts, members of the Udyog Vihar Industries Association said they have received electricity only for four to five hours per day for the last fortnight.

Over 100 small-scale industrial unit owners signed a memorandum to be sent to Haryana Governor A R Kidwai. "We want to bring to the notice of the government that their policies are partial towards large scale industries and are leaving little scope for small enterprises to exist in the market," said Col Raj Singla, president of the joint forum formed by Chamber of Industries Udyog Vihar, Udyog Vihar Industries Association and Haryana Industries ssociation.

Udyog Vihar has over 1,500 working industrial units, comprising ITs, BPOs and MNCs. But the area has a majority of small scale units, engaged in manufacture of garments, auto-parts, moulded components and other electrical and electronic equipment.

"Due to non-availability of power, these units are unable to keep their commitments and their principals are cancelling purchase orders or holding the payments. Instead, these principals are diverting orders to vendors in Delhi, where the power situation is said to be much better," said K K Kapur, Haryana Industries Association General Secretary.

Units in Udyog Vihar are not able to install more generators and cannot sustain heavy maintenance and repair cost of generators, which are getting worn out due to extended usage, said P Jain, a small scale factory owner in Udyog Vihar.
