Kolkata, April 02 Malati Burman and Madan Burman were arrested along with their two children last year in North Dinajpur while they were crossing the Bangladesh border. Following a legal procedure the couple was confined to a jail at Islampur. Their children were transferred to a juvenile children’s home in Cooch Behar about 200 km from Islampur. Justice Asim Roy of Calcutta High Court, today asked the Juvenile Justice Board, to make necessary arrangements to enable the two children to meet their parents. Justice Roy observed that the seven-year-old girl and the ten-year-old boy confined in the juvenile children’s home have the right to meet their parents under the United Nations Conventions on the Right of Child. Meanwhile, the High Court today directed the jail authority to take similar steps enabling the couple to meet their children.
