Kolkata, June 12 The Calcutta High Court on Thursday enquired about the Environment Management Plan (EMP) of the proposed water supply project of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) at Dhapa.

The KMC informed the court that the plan was not ready and it needed more time to prepare it.

The KMC had conceived a Rs 98-crore water supply project in 2006.

PUBLIC, a social organisation, filed a petition in 2007 alleging that the project was coming up on a wetland and violated the provisions of the Wetland Management Act. Since then, work on the project has been stalled.

The petitioner’s counsel argued on Thursday that the KMC had finalised the project without preparing an Environment Impact Assessment report.

The KMC’s counsel, Jayanta Mitra said that while a report on environment has been prepared, the EMP would be finalised when the project reached the implementation stage.
