While Haryana state is supportive of the allegations levelled by advocate Mohan Jain, counsel for the petitioner in the case, the commission on the other hand has denied any manipulation in the selection procedure.
In its reply, the Haryana government stated that after carrying out inspection of records, it was discovered that the selection was marred by a number of manipulations, in order to favour some students.
The commission, on the other hand, reported that it found no manipulations in the inspection report.
Meanwhile, an SDO presently posted at Rohtak district has contended that all the selections made in the HCS were done on the basis of merit and that no manipulations have been carried out by the commission, contrary to what the state claims.
It might be recalled that the HCS selections of 2002 were challenged in the High Court, through a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), on the ground that candidates who had received less marks in the written test were awarded more marks in the interview and vice-versa. Taking note of this, the HC had allowed the inspection of records pertaining to the exam.
The main case is to come up for hearing on February 20.
