Kolkata, March 3 Left Front partner Forward Bloc today sharpened its attack against the state government by exhorting its members and supporters to retaliate in case of a police attack.

Bloc general secretary Debabrata Biswas launched a severe diatribe against the police while referring to the incident at Dayarampur in North Dinajpur district where the police opened fire to dispel a violent mob.

“To my horror, I watched a policeman kick a farmer on TV. How dare he do that to someone who feeds him? If such a thing happens again, don’t take it lying down. Just hack his leg off,” Biswas said during a rally organised at the Netaji Indoor Stadium to condole the deaths of five Bloc supporters who perished in the police firing at Dinhata, North Dinajpur district.

Calling for a tighter leash on the police, he said the police had no contingency plan to tackle the mob in Dinhata. “People obviously do not hurl flowers in a law violation programme. It will have to be choppy. But that does not mean the police fires on them at whim. Is not the police under a Left Front Government?” Biswas said.

Criticising the state government, Biswas said precious land was being snatched away from farmers. “The government is working to further the interests of industrialists,” he said.
