"We will be happy if Prabhakaran is caught and handed over to India for the heinous crime he has committed. He should be brought to book for the assassination of our beloved leader Rajiv Gandhi," party's chief spokesman M Veerappa Moily said.
Moily said the Sri Lankan government would do an excellent service to India if it hands over the LTTE chief after catching him. "We want his extradition. The request is pending," he said.
The Congress leader, however, said the ethnic issue in Sri Lanka and the humanitarian concerns have to be looked into by the neighbouring country.
"LTTE is a terror outfit and a banned organisation. But the ethnic and humanitarian issues will have to be dealt with by the government and the Tamil population cannot be discriminated against. One cannot mix issue of terror with the humanitarian ones," Moily added.
On the statement of MDMK leader Vaiko who had said it was a temporary setback for the LTTE and they will bounce back, Moily said it was the opinion of an individual and not the Government of India.
"He (Vaiko) does not reflect the views of the Government of India. Only, the MEA would respond to the development. It is a diplomatic issue," the Congress leader said.

I think tamils generely better than muslims as people, but they can be a cancer for a contry. Ltte is clasic example. My suggestion is to finish the ltte regardless and give good political solution to the tamils who lots most of things in their life.

Dear Sir,I sincerely hope the current setup has a plan with what to do with all these terrorists if they are indeed handed over to India. Do we have fast-track courts where they would be tried? Do we have a system in place that can execute a fool proof law suit of such high profile criminals ?I think we all know the capability of the folks in Delhi. Why Sri Lanka should hand over Prabhakaran to India after all the government did nothing to help the Sri Lankan government in its movement against LTTE. Now when it seems that they will be able to catch Prabhakaran Congress come forward and now demanding Prabhakaran. Even if they will handover how they can be sure that they will be punished as we have history of cases running for 20-30 years. Handing over to India will be a boon for Prabhakaran as he will get bail or at least will be put in 5 star jails for the lifetime and LTTE will benefit from it.
I hope SriLanka doesnt agree to this, because if Prabhakaran is tried in India, it will ensure that Tamils supporting Prabhakaran will support LTTE and bring the LTTE war from SriLanka into India. Dont ever ask for Prabhakaran.Best is to Punish Vaiko for such statements.

Why you want Prabhakaran extradition? First this gov. should take care about hanging of Afzalguru and think about Prabhakaran. Even if Srilanka caught and handover to this gov. what it will do? for DMK or Vaiko pressure, they'll release or let him put into jail, but they cant hang him, so instead of that Srilanka better to deal with Prabhakaran

Yes, SL must handover Prabhakaran as soon as he is captured. I hope the SL capture him sooner or later. In the meantime, the SL should handover the soldier who attempted to kill Rajiv Gandhi during the guard of honor in SL.
