Kuala Lumpur, February 5: Malaysia's government should stop harassing Christians by seizing their Bibles especially at entry points, the country's biggest church group said on Tuesday amid a new furor over the imports of the holy book.

The Christian Federation of Malaysia's statement came a day after a Malaysian Christian complained that airport custom officers seized 32 English Bibles on her arrival from Manila.

Federation chairman Bishop Paul Tan Chee Ing said the incident, which happened on Jan. 28, was not an isolated case.

"We have received many complaints from Christians being told to hand over religious books to custom officers at various checkpoints in the country," he said in a statement. "Now they even want our Bibles."

"We will not comply with any directives from the government or its agencies that infringe on our right to use our sacred book and other Christian literature," said Tan, who represents the country's three main church groups.

The Bible seizure is the latest in a series of disputes that are stoking fears of an erosion of non-Muslims' rights ahead of the coming general elections, widely expected within weeks.

Politically dominant Malay Muslims form about 60 percent of the population of about 26 million, while the ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities include Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Sikhs.

I Think so we should stop worrying about malaysia and concentrate on Mr Raj Thakrey who is beating blue out of Hindu North Indians. We as Hindus should be united as its well known that muslim population is rising in india and the day they become 40% they will take over this country, does not matter what we think or write in papers.also the way hindu women are getting married to muslim men ,We should do something ,Like giving Viagra to hindu men so we can also have more kids and save our country.Jai Hind.

seizure of holy books by raj shanti on 05 Feb 2008

I think it is a common place that the majority community always wants to dominate and oppress the minorities in any country. No religion or their holy books teaches violence, aggression or terrorism. All religion teaches peace and how to live a righteous life in this world. All religious books are gods word brought down thru different prophets and different time. Whenever the Asuras or rakshasas viz Ravan, Kans, Pharoes, pagan arabs hv raised their head and committed last scale attrocities on poor, destitutes and minorities, God has send its vicegerant to finish these asuras and rakhasas thru preaching of different religion at different time. No religion teaches hatred towards any holy books. Hence what the Malaysia customs are doing if at all there is a truth in such news then it is totally wrong.
