London Rahul Bhatt, son of prominent film director Mahesh Bhatt, is 'convinced' that Pakistani-American LeT operative, David Headley was working for the FBI when he was in Mumbai before the 26/11 terror attacks.

"I'm convinced Headley was working for the Americans, for the FBI. I'd nicknamed him agent Headley," Rahul said in an interview to UK's Channel 4.

"It was the Americans' deepest wish to infiltrate al-Qaeda. And David did exactly that for them. I had a hunch then and I have a hunch now that he was an American agent of some sort," Rahul said.

"You know, he even begged me to stop calling him 'Agent Headley' in public. It really pissed him off. Now I know why," Rahul was quoted as saying by a news channel.

"He was a great guy. He was charming, had a great sense of humour and was caring, sensitive and very well-informed. I feel hurt. I liked hanging out with him because he could teach me things about my areas of interest, be it guns, intelligence, spy-craft," said Rahul.

"I feel hurt, because it’s a sort of rape when you have a close friend who ... (does not finish sentence). I have stopped trusting people," he said.

Rahul became friendly with Headley during his stay in India as a surveillance scout for the Lashkar-e-Taiba, prior to the 26/11 attack in Mumbai. Rahul and his associate Vilas Varak were trainers at the gym Moksh in Mumbai and met Headley during his visits there.

"Hey guys, so sorry to see what has happened in Mumbai. We should go over there and kick their ass." the email sent to Rahul by Headley on December 11, 2008, two weeks after the terror attack in Mumbai, read.

Asked if he would go and see Headley in jail, Bhatt replied: "Oh, definitely".

49-year-old Headley changed his name from Daood Geelani to David Coleman Headley in 2008. He is one of the prime accused of conspiring the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack and is charged in a Chicago court along with Canadian Tahawwur

Hussain Rana.

Headley was arrested in the US in October 2009 by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force at O'Hare International Airport before boarding a flight to Philadelphia, intending to travel on to Pakistan.

Headley was held for plotting terror attacks on behalf of LeT against India and on charges of plotting a terror attack against the facilities and employees of the Danish newspaper which had published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed in 2005.

Mahesh Bhat needs to spend more time with Rahul and less at Wagah border by V.Mahesh on 28 Jan 2010

Looks like Headley was the father Rahul never had. I think it further casts doubts over Rahul's activities if his interests are spying and guns and he actively seeks out so called "agents" as friends. I guess Mahesh Bhat needs to work on sorting out his own flesh and blood before he tells the rest of India how to behave and what to do. Shoba De was right after all !!

Liason between the Pak terrorists and the Bhatts and Burkha-NDTV by Jagu Fakruddin on 28 Jan 2010

It all boils down to this that this Mahesh Bhatt's son Rahul had been trained to be an Agent of Fpreign Govt and that his why he allowed to be cultivated by Headly who worked both for Pakiis and the CBI.How could he have continued any liason with Headly after knowing this as hewas not a child.Mahesh Bhatt deliberately allowed Rahul this liason with his pro Pakistani stin himself being half Pakistani as can be gethered from his own admission.Let this duo be investigated and sent behind jail instead of being rehabilated by Burkha Dutt and NDTV as reported earlier. The very fact that Burkha Dutt was negotiating safe passage with the Pak terrorist it could only be throuh this liason with the father and son pair.

Headley worked for Americans by Shadi Katyal on 28 Jan 2010

It is amazing that this fellow after helping Headley is now feeling sorry for him but not for what happened. I suggest our intelligence should question him as not son of a Film Director but as a sleeper. His very statement tells that Headley must have shown him some guns and he must have shown him how to shoot. Is he not ashamed of such statements. Let us her what he told the police as his father and sister all told lies. He took the man to his house and introduced to his mother.Howe many such visitors has he taken home. This man must be kept under Radar. Still waiting for the Chicago Consulate issuance of Visa report and Headley application. We need full reports for closure of all those who died because or our lax rules . How dare this man defame the people who were killed. time to boycott all films of his father.

headley by Sri on 28 Jan 2010

This Bhatt character will go and see headley in Jail??? What for? To thank him for the Mumbai attacks or to ask him to keep his mouth shut? Or both! The fellow also calls it "rape" - seems to speaks like a woman.

Rahul Lucky to be in India and not in FBI custody by Truth on 28 Jan 2010

What difference does it make if he worked for FBI or not. Had FBI not caught him his operations in India would still be running. And people like Rahul Bhatt willingly helping him create a new 26/11....Rahul Bhatt should be picked up by FBI only than he would know how people outside India have to pay for helping Islamic terrorists. He is lucky that he is living in a "banana republic" called India and over 95% of the people who died in 26/11 were Indians and not...........

Shame on You by Afroz Ahmed on 28 Jan 2010

Shame on you, Rahul. Rather than being ashamed of your act you are defending Headly.shame on you.

Rahul bhatt is a moron of highest order by Vishnu on 28 Jan 2010

Who is this guy Rahul bhatt to give clean chit and absolve Headley of heinous conspiracy against India? after being fooled by Headley or being a indirect helping partner in the crime, he has the gumption to defend him! Dont allow him to enter back to India, let him rot where he has given this interview..

Why is Rahul Talking now? Is he still continuing helping David Headley and co. ? by Shantanu on 27 Jan 2010

Why is Rahul 'Bhat' trying to dissociate Headley connections from LeT? In reality whose agents are Mahesh Bhat and family? Media should try to investigate Mahesh Bhat and all his Pak. connections. In reality Bollywood and Dawood connections! Media has responsibility to the nation, not just as pr-Sonia and anti-nationalist grouping!

Headley worked for Americans and for the FBI: Rahul Bhatt by Ratan Gupta on 27 Jan 2010

70% of Indians who are surving below poverty line don't care of headley or peadley. Those 2 million children dying every year in our great Bharat do not care of Headley either. Those thousands of AIDS patients do not care either. 90% of Indians who are living as no more than slaves of the few rich do not care either. These exciting news is only filling the apetite of few criminal minded Indians who wanted to control India by creating an artifical foregin threat. Our dirty roads, our already collapsed sanitation system, our unwalkable, unliviable cities cannot be cured by such Headley and Peadley news. America is terrorizing its population by creating foreign terrorists, so is our great country too. The fooling of poor and destitute is still going on in the name of democracy and freedom of speech. Likes of Ambani can do anything by breaking the laws, no wonder we have 50 million court cases pending for poor and helpless.

You back by Jalal on 28 Jan 2010

According to the a 2005 World Bank estimate, 42% of India falls below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day (PPP, in nominal terms Rs. 21.6 a day in urban areas and Rs 14.3 in rural areas); having reduced from 60% in 1980. Of course there is still a lot to be done. However, to put the whole thing into perspective, 62 million Pakistanis now live below poverty line despite billions of dollars pumped in by Saudis, China and the US every year. Ambani may be breaking the law, but nothing compares to Mr.10 percent who wards of the evil by sacrificing a black goat every day!! I bet Ramanand rues the decision of sending you to a Madrassa in Pakistan instead of a proper school in India.

Rahul: Have you heard of double agents? by H.Chauhan on 27 Jan 2010

The kind who killed some CIA personnel in A'Tan? Gilani aka Headley could have been used by the FBI since he was a convicted drug smuggler. That kind of thing is done all over the world by the Intelligence Agencies. One is sure CID has such agents. FBI got wised up to his terrorist links. Being a film producers son doesn't make one smart, unfortunately. Charming, is he? No wonder, the intelligence agencies would think you might have been inadvertantly got used against your own country.

No Head Way by U N Han on 27 Jan 2010

If Rahul Bhatt knew that Headly was an FBI Agent, why he did not inform Indian authorities instead of hobnobbing with him.
