Medical training programme by SIHS
The Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS) organised training for Medical Manpower of Commonwealth Youth Games 2008 on July 13. It was a day long programme where medical Professionals of all streams actively participated. Also there was active participation of doctors working with public health department government of Maharashtra. General rules of CYG, sport specific injuries, communication skills are few of the topics covered in this training. SIHS had taken sole responsibility of training medical as well as non medical personnel's participating in Commonwealth Youth Games 2008. Two other training programmes will be conducted on July 20 and 27. The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Western Center, Gandhinagar, in collaboration with the Symbiosis Institute of Health Sciences (SIHS), Pune organised a two day training programme for Doping Control Officers and Sampling Officers.

Workshop on Immunohistochemistry
An International workshop on Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is being conducted at the Dr DY Patil medical college on August 9 and 10. Organised by the Dept of Pathology, experts from USA and Mumbai will be speaking and conducting this two-day event. The last day of registration of the delegates has been fixed at July 30. Cancer detection camp
A cancer detection camp was organised for the wives of army personnel of the age group 30 years and above, under the aegis of Army Wives Welfare Association, Bombay Engineer Group And Centre. The three day camp was inaugurated by Anita Thamburaj, President, Army Wives Welfare Association, Southern Command on July 14. Uma Chadha, Secretary, Army Wives Welfare Association, Southern Command and other senior ladies were also present during the camp. Approximately 350 ladies of Bombay Engineer Group And Centre participatedin the three-day camp.

MCC outlet in the city
Manipal Cure and Care [MCC], India's First Health and Wellness centre, today commenced its retail operations in Pune with the launch of its first outlet at Connaught Place, Bund Garden Road. Manipal Cure and Care was formed in January 2007 with a seed capital of Rs 50 Crores and launched its first centre in India at Ahmedabad in August last year and thereafter has opened centres in Bangalore and Mumbai. MCC plans to launch 10 centres in cities like NCR, Baroda and Hyderabad by end 2008.

Health awareness & cancer screening camp
Shri Poona Kutchi Jain Mahila Mandal and Ruby Hall Cancer Centre has organised a free Health Awareness and Cancer Screening Camp on Wednesday, July 16, at Ruby Hall Cancer Centre for female members of the Kutchi community in Pune. Expert panel of doctors from Ruby Hall clinic shall deliver lectures on Breast Cancer and Gynaecologic Awareness for the benefit of the participants. Free mammography check up / health check up for the participants will be conducted at the venue itself. Mayor of Pune, Rajlaxmi Bhosale will attend and-actor. Jackie Shroff will preside. Dr K B Grant, Chairperson and Trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, Pune's premier medical institution, will be present.

Crisis management programme at AFMC
The College of Nursing, Armed Forces Medical College Pune is organising a continuing nursing education programme on Crisis Management in Cardiac Emergencies and Nurses Alert. The ten-day CNE will be inaugurated by Lt Gen S K Kaul VSM, Director and Commandant, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune on July 16. Nursing officers from various Military Hospitals of Southern Command and staff nurses from civil hospitals of Pune are attending this short educational course. According to Col J A Fernandez, Principal, College of Nursing, prompt and adequate response is the cornerstone of effective medical and nursing care in cardiac emergencies. Maj Gen G Rajagopal, Deputy Commandant , AFMC will release a précis entitled "Crisis Management in Cardiac Emergencies and Nurses Alert".
