Certificate course in medical genetics
Maharashtra University of Health Sciences is starting a new certificate course in medical genetics at its regional center in Aundh. This course will be taught at the newly established department of Genetics Immunology and Biochemistry. The eligibility for admission is basic degree from any branch of medicine or science. The intake of students per batch will be limited to 30. The course will be of six months duration and the lectures will be held on Saturdays and Sundays. The certificate course format will include lectures ,case discussions and project work along with laboratory visits. The course will also be useful for students interested in obtaining education overseas as it will add to the students edge in competitive exams like GRE, PLAB and ECFMG. Cardiac Killation
Jeevan Mitra Pratishthan, a charitable trust celebrated its 5th anniverasary on March 1. On this occasion Dr H V Sardesai arranged a lecture on cardiac health awareness and lifestyle. Dr Vinita Sardesai gave a lecture on yoga. Rs 60, 000 were distributed amongst the needy cardiac and cancer patients. Vijay Chougule, corporator, and the chief guest for the function announced a donation of Rs 1, 00,000 for the trust.
Cardiac rehabilitation centre to be opened
The Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai in association with the Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana has decided to open a cardiac rehabilitation centre at Shivajinagar. Dr Ramakant Panda, cardiac surgeon at the Asian Heart Institute who was in Pune to deliver a talk on- a healthy life after cardiac bypass surgery said that the long term solution to tackling heart diseases is preventive means. He urged that regular exercise; a strict diet of vegetables and fruits and yoga for stress management can keep one away from stroke.
Bypass surgery on city girl successful
The cardiac surgeons and cardiologists of Ruby Hall Clinic of Grant Medical Foundation performed a life saving bypass surgery on a 13-year-old girl Komal- a student of Standard IX. The surgery was performed by Dr Manoj Durairaj who skillfully placed grafts to nourish the main pumping chamber of the heart and later closed the abnormal connection. The child is now normal and awaiting surgery stitch removal before she can resume studies, a statement issued here stated.
