Caring for cancer patients
Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) celebrated International Women's day on March 8 by taking its women patients to Oasis Club and Restaurant on NDA road for recreational activities and a special program of Animal Assisted Therapy. Women patients from different hospitals all over Pune like Command Hospital, Sasoon Hospital Ruby Hall Clinic were present for this program. These women patients afflicted with different forms of cancer like breast cancer, cterus cancer were provided Animal Assisted Therapy by renowned Animal Therapist Minal Kavishwar and volunteers of Animal Angels Foundation. Therapy dog Kiara, a trained therapy dog of Animal Angels Foundation was the star of the program and won over the hearts of these patients and gave them a reason to smile. All these patients had a wonderful time, as Kiara helped them de-stress.

Research shows that the odds of quitting smoking on Champix are twice that of buproprion and four times that of placebo. All Champix users can avail of the 'Champs Club' support program that together with the medication will help smokers desiring to quit, overcome their addiction. The 12-week Champix prescription course will be available across 17 cities in India.

Area office for stem cell banking
LifeCell, the pioneers in stem cell banking, research and therapy in India, announced the launch of its area office and collection centre in Indore, for umbilical cord blood stem cell banking. The company has a state-of-the-art Stem Cell Processing and Banking facility near Chennai conforming to the standards laid by American Association of Blood Banks. With an existing base of over 30 centers across Asia, LifeCell is now increasing its network in the country. As a part of this expansion activity, LifeCell launched its centre at Indore. Veeda Clinical Research
Veeda Clinical Research, the Anglo-Indian clinical research organisation (CRO) based in Ahmedabad, Germany and the UK, announced that it has formally commenced a number of initiatives resulting in the formation of an Experimental Medicine Group within the infrastructure of the CRO. Traditionally, Indian Phase I Units have concentrated on Bio Equivalence and Bio Availability work and most recently, Veeda has led the way in establishing First-into-Man facilities and formal Phase I and Human Clinical Pharmacology across the group and especially in India. As a result of plans formed with a number of multi-national Pharma companies, Veeda established within the Phase I group, a small multi-functional team working on experimental medicine. Recently the group, working in Plymouth completed a very sophisticated first-into-man study of a novel intravenous anaesthetic. At the same time, in India, the team developed methods for the study of the microcirculation in the leg muscles of diabetics and normal subjects in advance of a new drug being developed by a major Indian Pharmaceutical Company for whom the Veeda Group is conducting all the early clinical development studies from First-into-Man onwards. The studies are being conducted across the group sites, utilising the best facilities irrespective of the geography.
