Puducherry, January 4: Hearing in the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Sankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi and his junior Vijayendra Sarawathi are the main accused, was on Friday adjourned to February 11.

Only 10 of the 24 accused were present when the case came up for hearing before the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Puducherry D Krishnaraja.

The absentees included both the Sankaracharyas.

The case pertains to the murder of Sankararaman, the manager of the Kanchipuram Varadarajaperumal temple on September 3, 2004.

The Sankaracharyas and 22 other accused were charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, misleading the court by giving false information and criminal trespass.

The Supreme Court had granted bail to the Sankaracharyas and shifted the case from Tamil Nadu to neighbouring Puducherry.

Meanwhile, a Special Leave Petition filed by the defence counsel before the apex court questioning the continuance of the Special Public Prosecutor of Tamil Nadu in the case being heard in Puducherry is pending disposal.
