Heavy rains claim six lives in Andhra

Hyderabad, March 23: Six persons were killed in heavy rains that lashed several parts in Andhra Pradesh since, official sources said.

Five deaths were reported in Kurnool district and one from the city here, sources said.

Heavy rains were reported from Mantralayam in Kurnool district and other areas in Prakasam, Nizamabad, Nalgonda and Warangal districts.

The rains, due to well-marked low pressure over southeast Arabian Sea might cause moderate to heavy rains throughout the state for the next 24 hours, according to local Met office here.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who cancelled his Mahabubnagar district tour due to heavy downpour, had a meeting to review the situation.

The heavy rains that started about 48-hours ago is still continuing in various parts of coastal Andhra, Rayalseema and Telangana region which caused losses to chilli an mango farmers in particular and other crops in general, officials said.

Reddy instructed affected district collectors to monitor the situation continuously and take necessary steps.

    Reddit allows users to submit news articles and other online content to the site. Users also give articles a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. Reddit then uses those votes to build a user profile and to find articles to recommend to you. Users can also submit comments on items posted to the site.
