Five Muslims were killed in a powerful blast in the communally sensitive textile town of Malegaon in Maharashtra and one Muslim boy was killed in the explosion in Modasa in Sabarkantha district.
Both bombs were placed on motorcycles parked in crowded areas days before Eid and set off after Muslims had broken their Ramzan fast on a Monday evening.
The BJP had condemned both the blasts. Investigators initially suspected Islamist groups such as SIMI or the Indian Mujahideen to be behind the near-simultaneous attacks — the first blast was at Modasa at 9.26 pm, the second minutes later in Malegaon — as they came in the aftermath of blasts in Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Delhi.
Besides, the motorcycle in Malegaon was parked below the now-defunct first floor office of SIMI while the one used in Modasa had Islamic stickers on its seat.
However, investigators found that these were apparently attempts by the attackers to mislead them, the sources said.
The breakthrough, they said, came when they traced the origin of the two-wheeler used in Malegaon. The vehicle used was a LML Freedom brand although some of its parts had been cannibalised from other vehicles and the chassis and engine numbers had been erased.
But with this brand out of production, dealer records and help from forensic experts led the probe to Gujarat, the sources said.
The motorcycle was allegedly owned by a man with an “ABVP background” there while the attackers belonged to the Hindu Jagran Manch with its headquarters based out of the office of an NGO in Indore, investigators found.
Top Maharashtra police officials confirmed the breakthrough but refused to go on record due to the sensitivities involved, adding that Central agencies were aware of the development.
The blast in Malegaon had sparked mob violence as angry Muslims targeted the local police and grievously injured the first policemen to arrive at the site, including a probationary IPS officer.
The attack came two years to the month when three bombs had exploded in and around a mosque in the town and killed 37 people, mostly Muslim worshippers.
That attack was blamed on SIMI and nine men were arrested but the trial has been stayed by the Supreme Court.

Islamic terrorism is a global phenomenon. Islamic Jihad has struck almost all nations on Earth, including Islamic nations like Pakistan (which is incidentally the epicenter of Islamic Terrorism/Jihad). If the Malegaon blasts were indeed the handiwork of some Hindus, then it means that in the absence of resolute government action a strong backlash is taking shape - which is not at all desirable. Terrorism and the Backlash would then feed on each other to strengthen each other to take the shape of full fledged communal flare-up in the country leading to calamitous consequences like another partition. This should be avioded. What needs to be done is that the Government should immediately and sincerely start its war on terrorism in right earnest, else the continued lack of confidence in the government will only strengthen the backlash. And in the absence of government action to curb terrorism, the government will not have moral authority to condemn the backlash. So, start now FIGHT TERROR

This wing should be immediately banned as it has now become the first terrorist organization of BJP minded parties. The country is in for a period of severe turmoil if the rule of law is given the thumbs down. The rule of law should be strict and harsh and non-discriminatory. It should come down heavily on all criminals irrespective of religion. A terrorist is also a criminal and terrorists are all those who "terrorise" and threaten others--they could be bomb planters, they could be groups out on a killing spree as in Orissa or Gujarat or for that matter during any riot. Brand all of them as terrorists and treat them accordingly. Any person who kills in the name of religion is a heinous criminal and deserves to be treated as such, not glorified. At the same time upholders of law who base their actions on a biased mindset deserve still harsher treatment.

When hindus go to vote,they vote as brahmins(11%),rajputs(15%)SC/STs(52%)..so-on and not as Hindus(80%),unlike muslims(15% from ur outdated stats) who vote with a single minded agenda to oust BJP.Had Hindus voted as 'hindus' only,u wd have altogether different meaning of secularism.Just what u see in Kashmir today.Try to have secularism in Kashmir for just an hour my dear friend.In politics,no ethics but only vote bank power speaks,and that is with Muslims and not divided Hindus.Its as simple as that.

I have not seen reports stating how many muslims or hindus are killed previous to this. They used to be so many 'people' killed. Now, just because it is suspected that a hindu may be behind this, your 'responsible' newspaper has started giving statistics of muslims killed? This is not the Indian Express I have come to respect.I am not saying that Hindus cannot do this. There are passions on this side too. But the whole report is too speculative and the entire evidence seems to be a scooter which are most of the time stollen anyway.

At last truth has prevailed and don't be surprised if more such realities come out. It is a well staged strategy by the hindu organisations, supported by the BJP to deprive well educated muslims from obtaining good jobs, especially in the IT sector. One could see that all the muslim youth who were arrested for alleged behind the bomb blasts are highly qualified professionals. sending them under judiciory custody for months without trial will ruin their career. This is the fact. Why it took so much time to declare that the hindu organisation is behind the blasts in Maharashtra where as in other cases SIMI and IM blamed the moment the unfortunate incidents happened and arrests were made immediately and some may be innocent among them. I hope sincerely that the truth will prevail at the end and the real culprits will be punished irrespective of their religion or region.

Now that the Police has found that some Hindu group is involved in the Malegaon blast the issue has become sensitive and the police mouths are shut. When a muslim group is involved Police goes to town with all the minute details and photographs as well. Is this the rule of Law. As a Hindu I feel sorry at the highly discrimnatory behaviour of the authorities. STOP DISCRIMINATING BETWEEN CRIMINALS AS CRIMINALS HAVE NO RELIGION.

The media should set an example by reporting such incidents by only giving the names of the suspects and not their caste and religion. The politicians of the country are already working overtime to divide the people on the basis of caste, creed, religion and take the country a few centuries backward. In these circumstances, the media should play a responsible role by reporting true facts and not utter any words about the caste, creed and religion of the people involved. After all, all human beings are one and the same. The life of a person to whatever caste or religion he belongs is so precious and his/her death will result in irrepairable loss to his/her family. In my view, there are only two categories of peopel - the haves and the have nots. When will the media start to be responsible???

I feel the time has come where people of all religions throw out all violent fundamentalists! whether hindu, muslims, christian - only moderate, peace loving leaders should be brought forward and all violent, venomous leadership shd be thrown into the sea!! Fundamentalist leaders and incite religious hatred and bring bad name to the comminities they belong to. Look at what has happened to Muslims ... today they are most hated commnuity in the world. When i read interviews of naive young muslim men corrupted by some organized terrorist/fundamentalist group, it saddens - these people could have grown into such good citizens!! Kudos to Indian Express for bringing the truth out. Is it not strange that no electronic or print media is follwoing this exposed truth. Are they afraid of back lash or they are shying away from truth. Specially the electronic media and the analysists who emerge on the stage with energy when ever there is bomb blast and strat accusing the muslims even with out waiting for the investigsation to start.
