New Delhi Soon, Delhi’s history will come alive at Qutab Minar in a sound and light show. With Delhi Development Authority (DDA) giving its nod to Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) for the show, the two bodies will soon be signing a Memorandum of Understanding for a land allotment request near Quli Khan’s Tomb.

“Considering the nature of the programme and the precedence of organising such shows near the Old Fort, etc, permission will be granted subject to certain conditions,” a DDA statement issued on Monday said.

The proposed sound and light show at Qutab Minar will depict the history of the Capital spanning from the Mahabharat to the Mughal era.

The ITDC has identified this world heritage site for the show in view of the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The corporation, however, has to seek clearance and NOCs from all concerned authorities such as Ridge Management Board, Archaeological Survey of India, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Conservator of Forests.

Though DDA may allot land to ITDC, it will still hold the title of the land. “The title of the land will remain with DDA and the site will not be allotted to ITDC either on licence or on lease basis,” the statement said.

Currently sound and light shows are held at the Red Fort on all days except Monday. Similar shows were initiated at the Old Fort but were stopped after they failed to take off. The ITDC, however, has plans to revive the shows at Old Fort before the Games.
