In a memorandum of demands submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), OHA president Balasaheb Ganjve has however demanded a cut in the sky-sign rates levied by the PMC.
In summer, activists and citizens start demanding energy conservation and the hoardings business becomes a soft target. We used 1,000 watt bulbs to illuminate the hoardings. However, with the availability of energy saving lamps, we have now shifted to 250 to 400 watt bulbs, which has started saving a lot of energy.
Ganjve said the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) levies Rs 11 per unit of electricity from the hoarding industry. Hence, the loadshedding would create a big loss to the MSEDCL as far as revenue generation from hoardings business is concerned.
He said that even if the hoardings industry were asked to shut the lights off completely, the MSEDCL would still levy an average charge. Secondly, if the hoardings are not illuminated our customers do not make a full payment, he says. The association has also demanded a cut in the sky-fee signs from PMC.
