The Home Ministry has mooted the idea of setting up a Police University with modern research and development facilities and classes which would help develop the right attitude and skills among candidates willing to take up a career in the police department, Patil told the inaugural session of the 38th All India Police Science Congress.
The ministry (home) is working to get the varsity set up at the earliest, he said.
Advocating the use of latest developments in the field of science and technology by the police force Patil suggested that the police force needed to be more techno-savvy to effectively handle the twin challenges of terrorism and crime in today's world.
They (police force) will have to familiarise themselves with the latest developments in the field of science and technology to have "an edge over perpetual offenders who are constantly upgrading their skills to commit crime against the civil society", he said.
Warning of biological, chemical and radiological crimes as the emerging aspects of violence in the years to come, Patil stressed that by the year 2020 police force will have to be much more equipped technologically to tackle crime.
Patil also urged the state governments to provide modern weapons, weather-based uniforms, best vehicles, and latest communication skills and gadets to police personnel to meet any challenge.

A worthless man occupying Home security ministry. Sonia systematically planted all the worthless persons in top positions like PM, Home Ministers, President etc so that she can use them as slaves and carry forward her Vatican agenda. These people like Patil are Jaichands, such Hindus collaborated with Islamist invadors and later with British.
The Home Minister would do well to recommend an university for the MPs majority of whom are semi-literate and know precious little about the country, let alone the Indian Constitution. Until this is done the Indian Institute of Public Administration may organise short-term courses for the MPs in Indian History, Constitution, Indian languages, resource distribution, foreign policy etc. The MPs - I dare not call them 'headless chicken' - need to be educated no less than the cops.
