kolkata, April 26 The teachers of the Metropolitan Homoeopathy College will go on a strike from Monday to protest against the suspension of two of the officer-bearers of the Metropolitan Homoeopathy College Teachers’ Association.

Confirming the strike, the president of the teachers’ association Sujit Biswas said, “In furtherance of its vested interests, the administration has targeted a few teachers on the false grounds that they were teaching outside the college.”

The principal of the college Tridip Chakraborty said that the teachers have not informed him about the strike. The teachers can go on a strike if they feel so, he said.

The teachers are demanding the withdrawal of suspension of the teachers’ association secretary Dr Biplab Kundu and assistant secretary Amitabha Sarkar. The association has threatened not to hold any classes, following which the college administration has suspended the classes.

“We have been denied our salary for the past 4-5 months. We want the postgraduate course to be initiated in our institute. But the authorities have suspended a few of us to prevent the teacher’s association from taking up the issue,” said Kundu.

“We don’t have a representative of teachers in the governing body. The body is not being framed up as per the requirements of the university,” he said.
