Chandigarh, February 18 The Chhandigarh Housing Board (CHB) plans to construct 300 houses for Category C and D employees of the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park in Bapudham Colony in Sector 26. Work on nearly 160 houses has already started. The CHB plans to acquire 2.5 acres of additional land for the project.

The CHB had started the construction after shifting nearly 700 families from Madrasi Colony in Sector 26, to small flats in Sector 56.

The CHB had recently got approval from the administration to construct additional houses in Bapudham Colony. CHB officials said that the jhuggis covered under the rehabilitation scheme would be removed from the area. The officials propose to prepare the project plan in two weeks.

CHB Chairman, Mohanjit Singh said that to ensure that no encroachments take place after the removal of jhuggis next week; the possession of land will be taken immediately. He said though the houses were being constructed for the group C and D employees of Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park, some houses could also be allotted to the general public. Mohanjit Singh said the price of the houses will be fixed at reasonable rates.

CHB has decided to construct nearly 13,000 dwelling units under different categories in the city.
