New Delhi, January 23: NCP chief Sharad Pawar wondered as to how he could become Prime Minister since his party had only 14 members in Parliament.

Shiv Sena Supremo Bal Thackeray, in an interview published in party daily Saamna on Tuesday, had described Pawar as ‘Prime Ministerial material’ but the company of Congress had ‘tainted’ his image.

"How can a party which has 14 MPs eye the Prime Minister's post," Pawar said.

The Sena chief had said he wanted a ‘Marathi’ to become the country's Prime Minister but the person at the helm should have a free hand to govern and should not survive on the ‘patronage’ of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

He also dismissed Thackeray's demand for 50 per cent reservation in houses built in Mumbai for Maharashtrians.

"He (Thackeray) may have said due to elections ahead," Pawar said.

Oh Mr.Pawar, you always had it in you for the top position. You got out of congress bçoz you hated Sonia foreign origin. You came back to UPA to enjoy the power. What about Sonia's Origin?? shame on you.Still you can make it. All those Gowda's,Guzral's,Manmohan''s are there as leading example.

My view by Venkat on 24 Jan 2008

Didn't Sonia become the super PM with just 145 out of 540 plus MP seats in parliament? Anything can happen Mr. Pawar in India as long as there are gullible masses voting in high percentage during elections.

constitution allows a person top become PM provided he is nominated by Sonia by dr.Srinivasan on 24 Jan 2008

Pawar as P.M. by s.p.singal on 24 Jan 2008

Don't get disheartened, Mr.Pawar. You Know your Congress best. You were a part of this party When Charan Singh and Chandrashekhar were made P.M by the Congress. You can pull out the same tricks though, of course, you run the risk of being dumped just as the two cited ambitious politicians were.

WHY NOT MARATHI BE A NATION by MARATHASHREE on 24 Jan 2008

Enough is enogh now! we lost thousands of maratha sainik to save this so called hindu nation from Mughals and what marati manus got? Nothing from this country. Instaed of calling MARATHI PM , Mr. BALASAHEB THAKRE SHOULD CALL FOR SAPARATE MARATHI NATION. If banladeshi can form a nation, Nepali form a nation, Shrilakan can form a nation and make their identity then why not Marathi people should make their identity. We donot want Dillipatti. We are seek of this Delhi Power. Let us wake up marathi man!!

P.M. should be Indian not poor marathi by Ramswarup on 24 Jan 2008

Re: WHY NOT MARATHI BE A NATION by Pattabi raman on 24 Jan 2008

Though my language is Tamil, I am very proud of Manmohan Singh and I can say that no Tamil person is suitable to replace him including Dr. Abdul Kalam. So, why do we need separate nation but the world should become one single nation or union, that will be there.

Sena made one corrupt and scandelous woman as President by Vivek on 24 Jan 2008

Sena made one corrupt and scandelous woman as President. This is called maratha proud, what a joke. Now its think 14 MP NCP party to lead the nation as PM. Why not Theckery himself try the PM post? His party too have around 10 MPs. Sena must support BJP/NDA candidate as PM, which is realistic.

Thackeray's demand for 50 per cent reservation in houses built in Mumbai for Maharashtrians. by Ajit M. Patel on 23 Jan 2008

Thackeray is snake with two mouth. On one side he talks about protecting Hindus and on the other side he does not want Hinuds Except Marathis in Mumbai. He must keep his mouth shut now. He is as bad as Communists, V. P. Singhs, Mulayam Singh, Soniya Gandhi, Raj Shekher Reddy (AP CM) and Arujun Singhs. These crooks have damaged India so much.

50 per cent by hola on 24 Jan 2008

Non- marathis in mumbai are shamelessthey are ungrateful

I would not say him a Crook by Sameer on 24 Jan 2008

Tho I agree with some of you comments... I would not say Thackeray as a crook... The thing I dont like about his statements is he is singling out other people from maharashtra... and thinks maharashtra is for marathi people only. Instead of providing reservation, he and his party should work from grass root level to provide good amenities to marathi people, and not ordering dictats for 50% reservation in Mumbai flats. Tho major population is marathi, there are other people also who has made this state progress, and he should have a broad vision on how should a marathi person progress.

Pawar As Marathi PM by Raju on 23 Jan 2008

Mr. Pawar don't believe in miracles. IF Laloo can Railway minister, if Buddha can still a CM of West Bengal, If Karunanidhi still can walk on his feet after distasteful Ramarks on Lord Ram, If Center government can still in place for calling Lord Ram as character of an epic, Mr. Pawar can be PM too, but not the way Shiv Sena want.
