Madurai, August 19: Rubinisha is all set to realise her dream of joining an engineering course much against wishes of her conservative father, thanks to the determination and support of her mother and timely action by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.

The Muslim girl, who completed her Plus two with good grades and longed to join an engineering course, was deterred by her father who doggedly opposed her studies and even pursuaded her present college not to release her certificates.

However, her mother, who was instrumental in helping her to pursue higher education, approached the court, seeking a direction to the college to release Rubinisha’s certificates so that she can join the engineering course.

Justice K Chandru on Monday directed the Seethalakshmi Aachi Women’s College to return Rubinisha’s Plus two certificates to enable her join the engineering college at Pudukottai.

Rubinisha’s mother Fathi Muthu Jegara in her petition submitted that her husband was against their daughter getting educated outside and she got her admitted in B.Sc Maths at the women’s college with great difficulty.

However, when Rubinisha got admission in Electronics and Communications Engineering, through counselling on merit, she could not get her transfer certificate and Plus Two marksheet from her present college, because her father had asked the college authorities not to return the certificates.

Rubinisha’s father, she said, was against Muslim women going outside for education.

The college was refusing the accept her affidavit in the Arts and Science college, with Notary public’s attestation, seeking to return the certificates of her daugther. As the girl would lose her admission, the court should direct them to return the certificates, she submitted.
