I am disgusted with fight between Ambanis: Deora

New Delhi Amidst the legal battle between Reliance Industries Ltd and Reliance Natural Resources Ltd over gas from Kaveri basin, Petroleum Minister Murli Deora has hit out at the Ambani brothers for fighting over a natural resource that belongs to the government and the people of the country.

"I am personally appalled and disgusted at how these two brothers are fighting over something that belongs to the government and the people of India," Deora said, adding, "It does not belong to them."

Incidentally, Anil Ambani has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh virtually accusing the oil ministry of doing a volte-face on gas pricing, saying its stand in the Supreme Court was in total variance with what it had said in Parliament.

Seeking protection against what he called the overt and covert attempts and 'partisan and biased approach' of the petroleum ministry to intervene in a commercial dispute with RIL, Anil wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offering to meet and explain the issues.

The government in a separate petition filed last week in the Supreme Court has asserted its rights to fix gas prices and its utilisation.

Deora's remarks come hours after petroleum secretary R S Pandey comments on the gas dispute which invited a sharp reaction from Reliance Natural Resources.

"I am very, very clear that the natural resource gas -- like any other resource, iron ore, uranium or coal -- belongs to the government and not to Ambani brothers," Deora said.

RNRL lambasted Pandey's comments, saying the government's petition is yet to be entertained in the Apex Court.

Pandey said the government has not let Reliance Industries get off the hook, for signing a private memorandum of understanding with a firm run by Anil Ambani to divide entire gas volumes from KG basin fields and thereby holding industrial development to ransom.

The Mukesh Ambani-led RIL and Anil Ambani-led RNRL are fighting over price and terms gas supply from KG basins.

Natural Gas. by VR Venugopal Rao on 22 Jul 2009

Let the Gas first flow out of the Wells. Let that is first used by Industries like Fertilisers, Power Plants and first of all the Household Cooking Kitchens. It is better use it first and make the users habituate of the facility and then think of hiking the prices rather than fighting over the price before getting it used.Telcom Industry and Cell Phone usage is the best example which initially was costly but now the cost has come down as the number of users have increased. We do agree that the rights Ambanis let us interests of the people be forgotten before the commercial interests. We should learn from the Country Like Venezuela which sells petrol for Rs.2.63 per litre to its citizens for the product which is produced indegeneously in its land. Fruits of the develoment should be first given to the Citizen/people of the Country. Let the development start from the Land of Origination and spread across all along the pipeline wherever it goes.

Fight between Ambanis by Jay Ravi on 22 Jul 2009

The fight between brothers is a concocted fight -- they will join hands at an appropriate future date. The entire Reliance corporation has been built on fraud, deception, tax-evasion, coercion and cheating. The present stand-off between the brothers is part of their over-all, time proven tactics. They and their ilk represent the worst and ugly face of corporate India.

Fight Between Ambanis by Atriedus on 22 Jul 2009

I agree with you on the orchestration of fights. Basically, the entities today are more valuable seperately than jointly hence they have split up. Maybe there may come a time when they may merge, but that is very far off.

Everybody knows everything by Devinder pal on 21 Jul 2009

Interesting to see comments fly against the government minister. It seems every body is privy to his actions. As regards the Ambani's I once did come across a commoner commenting, their father with least means made an empire while the two with good education and all the means are doing fine at destroying it. Wonder when they will have common sense or have they felt derived in live as is apparent from their never ending business wars.

Ambani's by Vijay Kumar on 21 Jul 2009

I do not agree with the comment. The Senior Amabni, was as dirty as their sons. During establishing of the Petrochemical plant in Patalaganga, he broke every rule in the book. I still remember reading about day in day out in Indian express. Senior Ambani was ruthless and payed his way to set up his petrochemical unit.

Parvenuism---- by romesh.sharma on 21 Jul 2009

Both Ambani brothers inherited riches from their father and both of them wasn't deservant.Education alone can't change the basic mentality and charcter of a person. In their early age they had seen how their father managed to gahter those riches, mostly through ways unacceptable by the truthful and honourabe people of the society.Certainly he worked/lived only to generate money which was his end.Their worst tendency is indulgence in mere competition of ostentation which give no pleasure or satisfaction atleast that bears no kind of proportion to the cost reasoned by corrution of bribery and appeasements aimed to gain further benefits.Through this vulgar ostentation parvenu billionaires like Ambanis will fall prey to this vice soon if they continue with this malevolent, jealous and contradictive behaviour.Great inherited fortunes can find a speedy path to unhourned end of life.Though different reasons but domestic querrels can be another example of Mahajans!

Fighting Ambani Brothers by A V Prasanna on 21 Jul 2009

Not a single day is lost in these 2 brothers fighting

he thinks people r fool by kirit shah on 21 Jul 2009

it is strange to learn that mr. deora is disgusted with the battle of two brothers.it is understood that the cost of gas is 0.89 cents according to mr. jethmalani, the counsel of rnrl. i think the govt. is as usual looting the people of india by fixing the price at above $4/. this gas must be suplied to rnrl / ntpc and others at reasonable price may be around $1.50. people r generally unaware of the reality and the govt. has, i think, vested interest in fixing higher prices. this is not good on the part of the govt. supreme court must speedily take up this case and give a clear direction which should be immediately implemented.

disgusted!!! by Raj thackrey on 21 Jul 2009

This person can only get disgusted and do nothing being a minister. Having resources inside a country does not mean that they are available easily, someone needs to invest in getting these resources out, and these Ambanies are doing that, Ambanies are paying more taxes in this country than this stupid minister sitting ideal and making comments like this. This minister is more of a liability on the country with a big mouth.

And country disgusted with your Chamcha giri. by Amit Purohit on 21 Jul 2009

This man is now hiding his deeds by using words of disgusting and so.THis country is fed up with your Chamcha giri attributes by reffering the price reduction of petro products on insistance of Sonia and increase to PM or markets. We are disgusted but understand that your mantri post is achievement of this chamchagiri along with bonus as a ticket to your inefficient son.

Ambanis in another cat fight by Anil on 21 Jul 2009

Yet another washing in public of their dirty laundry. We are not interested. Wealth built by their father by some dubious means, and now these supposed brothers are fighting over their inheritance and increasing their fortune. How can publicly quoted companies be run like this? They should be stripped of their offices and qualified professionals appointed. Nepotism breeds corrupt minds, not the best minds.
