“Mein apne aap ko nirdosh nahin batata hoon. Meri guzaarish hai ki mujhe turant saza sunai jaye. Mere trial ko khatam kar do sir. Mujhe bilkul confess karna tha. Jo kaha hai, woh kisi ke dabaav mein nahin bola hai. Apni marzi se bayaan de raha hoon. Mere confession ko record kar do (I am not saying I am innocent. I am requesting the court to deliver its judgment immediately. Sir, please conclude my trial with this confession. I am not acting under duress and I am confessing completely willingly. Please record my confession),” Kasab said.
Through the day’s court proceedings, a calm and composed Kasab, 21, clinically narrated his journey from a decorator in a small shop in Pakistan’s Jhelum district to a Lashkar jehadi who ended up becoming the face of the unprecedented attack on the metropolis in which 166 were killed nearly eight months ago.
While much of what Kasab said in court has already been known through the prosecution case, the Lashkar man claimed that an Indian jehadi with the alias Abu Jundal taught him and his accomplices Hindi in one of the many camps they were trained. Besides, Kasab also named Lashkar operations chief Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, and handlers Abu Hamza and Kahfa, along with Abu Jundal, among the four ustaads who trained the attackers.
He said he had waited for Pakistan to accept him as a Pakistani and decided to confess once Islamabad did so. However, there was some discrepancy in that claim as Pakistan first accepted Kasab as its citizen more than five months ago when Interior Ministry chief Rehman Malik said all the 26/11 attackers were Pakistanis. But with Kasab not questioned during the confession, it was not clear why he waited all this while.
Incidentally, Kasab’s confession comes a little over a week after Pakistan gave India a dossier on the action it had taken against the Lashkar men blamed for the attack. The 36-page dossier names Lashkar operations chief Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi as the “mastermind” and reconfirms the Pakistani nationality of Kasab.
While the Mumbai Police and the prosecution claimed his confession as a victory for the watertight case they said they had built, Kasab’s lawyer said he was completely surprised as he did not know this was coming despite having met his Pakistani prisoner on Friday.
Legal experts said that the confession would greatly speed up the trial against Kasab while the trial of the two others accused, Syed Sabahuddin and Fahim Ansari, was likely to be split and tried separately.
The police and the prosecution also said that there were some contradictions and discrepancies in Kasab’s confession today and the one he had made while in custody and later retracted and that they would place them before the court.
If Kasab accepts these contradictions as well and admits to them, his trial would effectively end and the two sides will argue over the punishment he deserves, they said. If not, these discrepancies will have to proved through further depositions.
Monday’s proceedings in the court began at 11 am with Police Inspector M Chavan due to depose in the hearing into the shootout at the Cama Hospital. But around 11.30 am, Kasab looked at his lawyer Abbas Kazmi and said he wanted to speak to Judge M L Tahaliyani, who immediately consented.
“Sir mujhe apna gunaah kabool karna hai (Sir, I want to confess my crime),” Kasab told Tahaliyani. For the next four hours, with a 30 minute break for lunch, Kasab talked about how he went to Rawalpindi with a friend to become a burglar and ended up becoming a jehadi and landed in Mumbai, armed to the teeth to kill indiscriminately.
“Mein Pakistan se sunne ke liye ruka tha. Jab unhone kabool kar liya ke Kasab unka hai, maine confession karne ki thaan li (I waited for Pakistan to accept that I was a Pakistani and once they did, I decided to confess),” Kasab told the court.
Kasab said he met a youth called Muzaffar while working with a decorator called Haji Sultan. “Mein naraaz tha apni life se. Muzaffar aur main baatein karte the. Muzaffar ne kaha hum dacoity karenge Rawalpindi main. Main turant tayaar ho gaya (I was unhappy with life. Muzaffar and I would talk. Muzaffar said we should become burglars in Rawalpindi. I immediately agreed),” he said.
He said he saw some Lashkar jehadis in Rawalpindi’s Raja Market and was immediately drawn to them. “Humne kaha hum yahan jehad karne aaye hain. Hame andar bula diya (I said I was there for jehad. They took me in),” he said, and went on to recall the rigorous training he and others were put through in various Lashkar camps across Pakistan.
Talking about the Mumbai attacks, Kasab said he was merely a foot soldier who had opened fire only inside the CST station. “I was relying on Abu Ismail, my companion, for orders. I had no idea what the next move was. We opened fire at the CST station and then headed towards Cama Hospital. I had not opened fire on any one after the CST firing,” he claimed.

We would be failing in our duty to those who perished at Mumbai,if we dont proceed on trial and questions about how and who masterminded his training.
It has been reported in a leading daily, that a Congress minister from Maharashtra paid a visit to Kasab,URGING him to confess his crime!!!!!!!My question is whom is the government trying to protect, by deflecting or shutting this case?
The way Kasab was laughing in the cout and finally decided to Confes, I think , He could not put up with the jokes any more.
I suspect... a perfect timing..series of co-incidences... and all related "drama"....leads me to "suspect" some one is Mumbai based "Handler" working locally and get instructions of Pak-GHQ remitted locally to Kasab. This suddenness was the last straw...if one watches Kasab's behavior and events till yesterday...it is in the realm of possibility that there must be a "Mumbai based Local Pakistani or Local Indian sleeper cell advicing every move....Mera Bhart Mahan....

It is shame for our judiciary for long trial of court. Really, it is doubt of our judiciary system. World is watching on this trial. A live telecast for killing the innocent people by terrorist without fear, also in clear video clip are not sufficient evidence for judgment? Now Kasab confession may be divert in a sympathy moment with a doubt of our judiciary system

The cases of Afsal guru and Ajamal are different. Ajmal should be punished. He is the face of terrorism cultivated in Pakistan. A person came to attack another country means he deserve no mercy. The maximum punishment that what he deserve. It will be a message to all who come to attack this nation.

Should we all believe that Kasab and his party were able to all that he has confessed without the help oh an Indian turncoat? I chalange all you secularists to go to Pakistan or for that matter even in any other friendly country and move about in various places within that country with very little or no introduction whatsoever to its geography. Clealrly Kasab wants to confuse our judiciary. He believes, and he may also be right at that, after his confession all investigations will stop. Our Governmant will be happy that it has solved a case. The fact is that Kasab is sacrificing his life for a larger cause of protecting Pakistani Al Qaeda sleepers in this country. Kasab is not a fool. He knows well from the progress of case that he will be convicted. The wetness of girl child all other has established the criminal involvement already. The anti climax of it has led Ujjwal Nikam to suspect the confession. Actually the prosecution was ready for a 1993 blast like trial but it has ended abruptly. In courts many a confession seen in the midst of trial it is not new thing. Judge can pass orders on the basis of confessions before him in court, and spare theatrical hysteria. In USA many case were tried where prosecution choose to not try all the crimes but only those where it is on sure ground. In court the conspiracy theory is not on the trial but the criminal act. Kasab dwelt on the conspiracy also which Pakistani Ministry refused to accept as proof. No purpose will serve by lingering trial and give publicity and hypes chance to focus on every thing except trial. Kasab security and well being is a concern of our country and any mishap will on our head
What is there to confess, everything was telecast live and the criminals were themselves wathcing their pics on TV, so what bid deal to confess. the important thing whether he confesses or not is - what should be done now, hang him or put in jail for life or maybe even get pardoned by saints manmohan and sonia, or let it become next big election issue? isn't it funny - one hand we are exchanging endless dossiers and other hand we make a big success out of confession.. brainless people are ruled by brainless people.
Has this guy Ajmal sudenly developed a conscience or has he received instructions from his handlers in the Land of the Pure? How were these instructions conveyed: Through his lawyer (despite the lawyer fegining surprise) or through the jail staff? In either case, it reflects poorly on our security.
The BJP (read Hindu Taliban) supporters should hold their horses. Law will take its course and Kasab will be hung. Thats what will happen whether BJP or Cong party is in power. There is no example of BJP doing anything different. It was BJP foriegn minister Jaswant Singh who hand delivered for exchange, an Islamic terrorist for hostages. Parliament attack and Kargil incursion also happened on BJP's watch, not to forget coffingate. BJP has a hopeless record.

Apparenlty, ISI has asked Kasab to confess. This shows that ISI has been able to maintain contact with him even in jail. One way this may have happened is through perhaps indirect ISI communication with Kasa'b lawyer. Or, ISI may have other links within the Indian jail and police system. Either way, it must be worrying that Kasab knew that Pakistan has admitted to Kasab being a Pakistani and that the 26/11 was planned from Pakistan.
Kasab's lawyer Abbas Kazmi is involved in the forced confession. The declaration at Sharm-el-Sheikh about delinking terrorism from the composite dialogue, joint diplomatic acrobatics from MMS and Hillary Clinton, her alleged emotional visit to the Taj and then sudden confession from Kasab; all this smells of articulated synchrony. As Harish Salve and Satish Manshinde maintain this could well be a tailor-made confession. Kasab’s plea ought to be rejected or at least suspended until examinations (and cross-examinations if any) of further witnesses are concluded. It may be that under prolonged pressure of the trial, he might irrefutably implicate Hafiz Saeed, whom, ISI, Kayani, Gilani
