Surat, December 7: Hoping that Indo-US nuclear deal will sail through despite opposition from some parties, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday termed the deal an "honourable" agreement which can provide new options for energy security of the country.

"It is an honourable agreement which will open new vistas of opportunities for our country with respect to energy security situation," he said at a press conference in Surat after addressing an election rally of the Congress.

To a question on the status of the deal, he said: "we have miles to cross as we have to go to International Atomic Energy Commission and then Nuclear Suppliers Group."

"There are difficulties. Some political parties are opposed to it," he said.

"I have full faith in the people. Once more and more people become aware about the merits of the deal, they will come to a positive conclusion on it," the Prime Minister said.
