New Delhi, March 27: Despite his stellar performance in the Twenty20 World Cup and the tri-series in Australia, middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma feels he still has work to do if he wants to get into the Indian Test side.

“It is just the beginning of my international career and I need to improve further. I still have some faults in my game and am looking to redress them,” Rohit said in New Delhi, on Thursday.

The Mumbai batsman said he has time on his hands to work on his game.

“I need to get some experience at the international level to get better. No cricketer is perfect. I have some time before the start of the Indian Premier League and am working hard on my technique and want to score big in the Ranji Trophy,” he said.

The tour Down Under had made him a more mature cricketer and he was a confident player now.

“But I cannot sit on my laurels and take the game lightly. I have to go and perform each time,” Rohit said.

His calm demeanour and obvious class has encouraged comparisons with his childhood idol Sachin Tendulkar, but Rohit himself feels they are not justified.

“There is no comparison between me and Sachin. I am just starting my career and he has been a stalwart for nearly 20 years,” Rohit said at a product launch.

The batsman has been acquired by Hyderabad’s Indian Premier League franchise, Deccan Chargers, for USD 750,000 and saw nothing wrong with cricketers being auctioned for astronomical sums of money.

“When the auction took place, we were in Australia and knew that all the players would earn large amounts. I have nothing against the process,” he said.

“There is a lot of excitement about the IPL and I am looking forward to it.” Former captain Rahul Dravid had recently expressed unhappiness over the auction process and hoped it never happened again.
