Chidambaram

New Delhi ‘I was disinclined’ to move to the Home Ministry but in a situation like this, "I answered to the call of duty", P Chidambaram said on Monday on his portfolio being changed from Finance Minister to Home Minister.

"When the Prime Minister conveyed the decision to me, I will be less than honest if I do not say that I was disinclined," Chidambaram told reporters here while winding up his duties with the Finance Ministry.

"But in a situation like the one we find ourselves, the final call is taken by the party leader, in my case the Congress president and the Prime Minister. I therefore answered to the call of duty," he said.

Chidambaram was appointed the Home Minister on Sunday after Shivraj Patil resigned in the wake of terror strikes in Mumbai.

Payment not the issue by Gauri Ghatnekar on 03 Dec 2008

Dear editor, PC will do a great job as a home minister. i firmly feel this. he did a terrific job of introducing economic reforms to the urban poor and therefore i feel that he has a real gift for managing home affairs too. a real revolution is needed in order to evolve our country successfully in the direction of growth and employment. we need men who are capable of handling vast amounts of data and cash successfully. there must be equitable distribution of wealth, and correspondingly power. power must be used wisely by all, and pc with his programmes has successfully exhibited this. his disinclination was seen by all

Look the smile of this raja by KR on 02 Dec 2008

What a shame that we have such politicians. Just look at his smiling face in this moment of terror unleashed on India. Any seriousness? Any tough posture? On top of that he claims he was disinclined. Minority appeasing, PAK licking, spinless, shameless individuals. As somebody said this is the last straw that breaks the camels back. UPA must be burried deep.

STOP Bashing Politicians by Nathan on 02 Dec 2008

Politicians just represent Indians, Indians should stop moaning and accept that such changes do not really change anything. It could be this disinclined man or those who have commented below the end result will be same as Indians lack integrity and honesty. They do not appreciate quality and a spineless race which can only moan and complain. Indians should forget independence and ask request the British Queen to look after them.

very good message thank you

New Home Minister by K.V. Raman on 01 Dec 2008

Chidambaram was useless as Finance Minister and I don't think he is going to set Thames on fire as Home minister. Why we can't appoint a retired four star General like Ge. Padmanabhan or J.J. Singh or N.C. Vij as Home Minister. What we need is dynamic leadership at the Home Ministry who is capable of organizing our intelligence network. All the appointments to the heads of intelligence agencies such as CBI, RAW and IB are based on political connections and not merit. How can these buffoons take care of the security of this country? We have to fix the corruption starting from the Ministers to Judges to the lowest level police constable if we have the real intention to save this country from terrorist attacks.

Reluctant Home Minister... by Dr.Ajay Kumar, England on 01 Dec 2008

In this hour of national crisis, a man is reluctant to assume all important Home portfolio. God save India and Indians.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS-A POTENTIAL THREAT by Lal Narang on 01 Dec 2008

Time has come to tackle the issue of illegal migrants from our neighbouring countries.Mainly from Bangladesh. Over last two decades the central and state governments have closed their eyes this grave threat. In fact some of the corrupt and power hungry politicians have gone out to create a vote bank of them by providing them the legal status by issuing 'valid, ration cards and other documents. The gross corruption in various Central and State Government Departments has played havoc with the security of the nation besides increase in crime levels and communal tensions. These officilas are worse than the terrorists that this country if fighting today. The priority of the incumbent home minister is to deal with this menace as severely as any act of terrists and all responsible Officials be punished under anti-national crime. But it is easier said than done. Hope a public opinion is created to force the Government to take stern action.

PC-callof duty by Lal Narang on 01 Dec 2008

sir, we dont need a reluctant man in charge at this time of crisis. You are a very good person and also very capable and reliable and we welcome you but please shed away the reluctance and get a grip on this grim situation. Please also ensure that the gallant officers serving the country are not sacrificed by our own corrupt and vilgar officials. It is reported that we lost atleast three of our heroes M's Karkare,Amte and Salaskar because they were supplied with inferior bullet-proof jackets. The reponsible Officers for such grave misconduct areworse than the terrorist and should be dealt with under the same law as terrorists. Sir our own saviours areour own destroyers and you must deal witjh such elemnts as well with same zeal as you deal with foreign elements.Further over the years the illegal migrants from Bangladesh have risen to more than million. No effective steps have been taken to deal with this threat which drains our national resorces and compromise safety of the nation.

Have the Congress-wallas lost their mind? by pkchn on 01 Dec 2008

Dis-inclined Home Minister, disinterested ex-HM, dumbo deputy CM

New home minister by Mukesh patel on 01 Dec 2008

Instead of appointing PC someone having firm background on security situation along with a political touch should be handed over the job of home ministry as PC was doing his job excellently in finance ministry only because of his background.I doubt his knowledge will help the home ministry.

Best Choice for Home Minister by Jai Sri Ram on 01 Dec 2008

I slightly disagree with you Mr Sarma. I feel Rahulji Gandhiji's family cook and doormat would make a better Home Minister than Rahulji Gandhiji, because under UPA a non-functional Home Minister is needed.

Pro rich FM has been shown the right way by S.C. Aggarwal on 01 Dec 2008

PM must be thanked for removing P.Chidambaram from Mkinistry of Finance. Mr. PC has a policy "Levy more and more taxes on the public. Remove all the taxes on the rich." Accordingly, a person who is earning income of say Rs.1000 crore from dividend is not asked to pay any income-tax while a senior or non senior TAX Payer with interest income of say Rs. 100,000 is being asked to pay @ 30%. Now PM will hold the charge of Ministry of Finance and he will definitely levy tax on the rich industrialists.

DISINCLINED HOME MINISTER! by BHARATMATAKIJAI on 01 Dec 2008

The last thing we needed was a DISINCLINED Home Mnister! Shows that we have now reached probably the lowest point in our so called "war against terror". The decent thing to do for PC was to resign if he was ordered to take a post he was DISINCLINED TO! What tamasha is this.. he is now trying to score some political points.. or more likely this clever fella is paving the way to make an excuse when some security problem happens under his regime!! WHAT A SMART ALEC... UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE TO LIVE WITH SUCH POLITICIANS !!!

PC is a GEM by Sigh on 02 Dec 2008

PM is one of the honest politician. He is good in commerce and finance. So his comments are valid. Who else you have in this country ? Lalu ? Sharat Pawar ? I know you would like politicians like Lalu who can offer some commedy statements. PC is the man for this job.

PC will do a good HM by PF on 01 Dec 2008

It is quite obvious for someone who is handling Finance portfolio to take home ministry post. However, given PC's attitude and approach, he will do a good job of cleaning internal and external terrorism. All the best to you PC.

DIS inclined by Ameet on 01 Dec 2008

One should not take a post if you are disinclined. Surely there are many competent people in the Party who are inclined!

PC as Hoe Minister by Ravishekar on 01 Dec 2008

Maybe now some anti social elements from society and other scourge in jails will get a relief package just like the middle men in the agricultural department got farmers' loan waivers.

PC as HM.. by BHARATMATAKIJAI on 01 Dec 2008

You are absolutely right.. the anti-social elements that will ensure that this lame-duck government will be voted back to power through goondagiri and false secularism!! What a joke. PC as a Disinclined Home Minister.. a joke that we did'nt need at this juncture. Looks like the PM was desparate to take over Finance Ministry and used this oppty. Obviously is seems like he too has leant to play politics after all..

A Disinclined Home Minister? by Balu on 01 Dec 2008

You have a Man here who is to be the Home Minister who is/was disinclined to take it!!!! What kind of a message are we giving to the ourselves and the world? If he is disinclined his reply should have been an emphatic 'NO". More despicable is the statement that he is taking it up because Sonia and PM wanted him to. We want someone who is his own man. Not someone who hides behind the 'pallu' of someone else. The people of this country want and demand positive, affirmative, decisive action not pussy-footing. It is a terrible start. I am sure this man will flatter to deceive.

PC as new Home Minister by V.Muthuswami on 01 Dec 2008

PC is an intelligent guy and quite smart too. Given good support from intelligence agencies and bucreaucrats, probably he can handle the hot stuff of Home Ministry. In any case, he cannot be worse than our super-duper Advani and his ilks. Poor Shivraj Patil was certainly a misfit and inept, result of which we have suffered and paid a heavy price in human lives, over these years. Enough is enough.

I am relelived, I was disinclined by Bhaskar V Shetty on 01 Dec 2008

Mr.Shivaraj patel after being forced to resigned said, I am releived. Mr.Chindaram on taking charges says I was disinclined to take the charge as home minister. My question was our Home ministry was in the rights hand and now is it in the right hand.

Political terrorist by Praveen on 01 Dec 2008

The main problem we have is the terrorists in the form of the Politicians... Until these guys change it is merly difficult ot change the current situation where Our Country is., mere resigning doesnot mean anything to the people who suffered.. It is nothing but these politicians are moving to a much safer zone where they wont be questioned once they are out of the ruling. Shoot these people or call a war on such politicians who try to make out there betterment from any such disaster. Instead youngster please come forward and lets start a Mission to make Our Country safe..

poor show by sarma on 01 Dec 2008

rahul was a better choice, if chidambaram wasn't interested.

Joke by Varma on 02 Dec 2008

Nice Joke. If Rahul as HM then Lalu should be the FM.

RIGHT by Jai Sri Ram on 01 Dec 2008

I disagree with you Mr Sarma. Rahul's Doormat, who cannot see, speak, stand, and act decisively is the RIGHT
