New Delhi, May 7: Former Bangalore Royal Challengers CEO Charu Sharma virtually confirmed that he has not stepped down from the post but has been sacked by the beleaguered Indian Premier League outfit.

A day after the team said in a statement that former Test player Brijesh Patel would take over as the new CEO after Sharma had 'stepped down' owing to 'personal reasons', Sharma clarified saying quitting was the last thing on his mind, even though he did not find anything wrong with an employer sacking an employee.

"The company has every right to hire and fire personnel. Being a national level sportsman and being deeply involved with the world of sports for many decades, the last thought on my mind would have been to part ways with the team," Sharma said in a statement.

Sharma's exit was more or less certain in the wake of poor performance of the Bangalore Challengers, which has lost five of their seven matches and are currently reeling at the bottom of the points table.

Sharma, however, hoped that it was a matter of time and there were enough matches to bounce back.

"I can understand their disappointment at the team not being the fastest off the block. But as I kept reiterating, there are many matches and many seasons to go to get it right," he said.
