Fali Homi Major

New Delhi Indian Air Force on Thursday said it is prepared to counter a 9/11 type aerial terror attack on targets in India.

"This (report about terrorists carrying out a possible aerial attack) is based on a warning, which has been received (by the government) and we are prepared as usual," Air Chief Fali Homi Major said after laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate on the occasion of Navy Day.

He said the issue was discussed during the meeting of three service chiefs with Defence Minister A K Antony on Wednesday at South Block.

"The issue was discussed in yesterday's meeting," he said.

After receiving inputs from intelligence agencies about possible aerial strikes by terrorists, airports in Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai were put on high alert on Wednesday night as the reports suggested that terrorists could have sneaked into India to carry out strikes on the anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

Defence Minister A K Antony had also on Wednesday warned the armed forces about the possibility of terror attacks from airborne platforms similar to the 9/11 attacks in the US.

In the meeting, Antony called for greater coordination among security and intelligence agencies so as to make the intelligence inputs actionable.

Antony wanted tightening of vigil along India's coastal, land and aerial frontiers to prevent terror attacks in future.

attack the @#$#@#$# by tobi on 18 Dec 2008

this always happens after any terror attack on india. politicians say "we will do this", "we will do that" etc etc. but all they really do is increase their own security cover and impose more taxes on people so they roll in more money. first of all, if the goddamn president has any backbone, she should declare emergency. and then declare total war on pak, america be damned. its high time we attack the source of this terror instead of just crapping our collective pants and mouthing cliched memoriam lines for martyrs. and yess, have all these ########### politicians EXECUTED by public mobs. that's the solution. maybe i appear too immature to a few people. if so you are welcome to correct me and initiate a debate. atleast it will get our countrymen thinking in this direction.

counter terrorism in india by soundara rajan on 05 Dec 2008

it is as ususal the authorities would have sent memos upto local SI to be on high alert and take all necessary steps to prevent terrorism and there ends the matter. But no one has got any clue how the terrorists are going to strike and what would be the contigency plan. Have politicians in the offices initiated any public compaign to make the people aware and what kind of steps they have to take if they suspect any suspiciouus activites. have they made any public compaign how they should react and be prepared for any sacrifice in the most dreadful situations i.e if the carrier is being taken over by the terrorists while on flight? how the security personnel are going to react in such eventuality? how the air force is going to react in such eventuality?. Are we prepared to sacrifice the people in such a flight to save our country from humiliation and huge loss like 9/11. worst come worst we should be mentally prepared to go to any extent to save our nation's prestige. Jai Hind.

India should declare war by Guru on 05 Dec 2008

India should declare war on Pakistan. I man not angry. The militery coup is in full swing in Pak, we should prove it and the pak will decend into dark ages like past few decades (rememeber the report saying Indian muslims are well off then their counter parts in Pakistan?). Very soon India will have last laughs, when pakistan deceds in to abbys and beg us to save her. Ofcurse we should send clear warning to US that we will not sit and watch if they pour militery aid to Pak. Let us encorage brilliant stretegic thinkers and do what US did to South America. Be stretegic and be patent, we will win.

India has a big big huge weapon which is not used! If all Hindus do chanting of Gayatri mantra at 18:00 PM IST for just 5 minutes for a month, then see how things will change!

Wake Up. by Rajeev Pant on 04 Dec 2008

It is not the IAF etc who can do this ...it is only a deep philosophical understanding of the fact that India now is reaching a stage to create its own Slobodan Milosovic and Radovan Karadzic........that will stem this rot for ever.

Wake up and do nothing? by Kunal on 04 Dec 2008

Rajeev, are you suggesting we SHOULD do what Milosevic did to "stem this rot forever"? If so, please understand that ethnic cleansing never succeeds, no matter what it's objectives. It is a dastardly and cowardly idea, one which history has shown has taken the human race on the verge of extinction.Any person who kills any other in cold blood, no matter if his objective seemed to be useful to you, will not hesitate to kill you if you are in his "scheme of things". Look at Pakistan. Those terrorists who the government once sponsored are now turning on them, just because it is now in their way. We will do better without that double edged sword.

Good news from the Airforce Cheif by Manish Joddar on 04 Dec 2008

hope the terrorists fail...

Treating Commandos! by Balu Toronto on 04 Dec 2008

Yes Ramesh you are 100% correct, but do Indian Govt treat commandos well?!!! While politicians have a convoy of 30 to 40 cars around him, commandos are made to travel by BEST bus to attend an ongoing terror attack! First our politicians security cover must be withdrawn 100%. Plough back the funds to protect public!

Why is Kasab given a chance to hire a lawyer? by Madhavi on 04 Dec 2008

After opening fire at CST station and killing so many people ,Kasab gives an explanation that he was shocked over what he did is not acceptable. There is no need for any lawyer to fight a case for him as no proof is required that he is a hard core criminal and only punishment for him is torture till death. If Kasab manages to escape means there is a serious problem in our law and order system. If we have to save our country we have to be very strict and change certain reforms and rules.

Kasab by Hughes on 05 Dec 2008

You have be crazy to suggest, Kasab may manage to escape. India will become World's laughing stock if he becomes one. I will disown the country, if he escapes. Period.

Attack terorrist camps in POK by Sonu Anand on 04 Dec 2008

Boasting Again!! Just like India Shinning!!! by Raj on 04 Dec 2008

Look at India's infrastructure, broken roads, no accountability for tasks, people only care about what is in their homes, right outside gate can be a heap of trash though. This is a basic Indian problem- carelessness and selfishness. Just get a job and be a parasite on society, take dowry and klil the other family to get yourself a car and big screen tv.(Remember that the girls family-who will become your relatives later, than takes bribes, becomes susceptible to tasks that can harm society or nation.)Also remember when you buy those flats and buildings (in a hurry to get rich, they will be gone if country looses)

rRESPONSIBILITIES by indian on 04 Dec 2008

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU RAJ

Relax... and remember to VOTE by Kunal on 04 Dec 2008

Relax Raj. I don't see how this is pertinent to the current situation, even though what you said is true in general. I do hope you will do/have done something at least on your part to change what in your opinion is a flawed society. It is easy (and free) to comment on something, difficult to make a difference. Also, there is a fine line between constructive criticism and needless pessimism. The latter achieves nothing, so I hope you aren't doing that.If BJP boasted about India Shining, they were shown the exit. If you don't like the current government's handling of what's going on, vote accordingly. If you don't like any of the current politicians, then try to get involved in what you consider is ideal politics (no sarcasm intended).

Save our country by Shashi Shetty on 04 Dec 2008

Please don;t boast my freinds.. just be prepared and think a head of these terrorist. kindly for gods sake equip our forces as per the time... we are no more fighting a stone war. save our country dear politician even your children needs it..

Why wait, I say by Kalidas M on 04 Dec 2008

So, what do we do now? Wait for Papis to attack us from air? Or if we are that capable mount an attack on them for a change? Why must we be at the receiving end always?
