Panchkula, March 9 The “rebel’ Indian Cricket League seems to be neck-deep in problems. It failed to get a rocking start with hardly 500 spectators turning up for the inaugural match of the ‘Edelweiss 20s Challenge’ at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 3, Panchkula.

It has now landed into trouble with the Panchkula administration. The authorities have served the ICL a notice for not taking prior permission to conduct the tournament. While ICL officials said they had done some last minute re-scheduling, which they said was the cause of confusion, DC, Panchkula said the administration had still not given ICL the go ahead for the tournament.

“Despite the fact that the organisers had asked for permission at a very short notice, we were looking into the matter. They applied for permission on March 3 for March 10 as they had plans to start the tournament from March 12. The authorities were still going over the application. It was only later that we came to know that some re-scheduling had been done and the tournament was scheduled earlier,” said DC, Panchkula, Rajender Kataria. He said the administration did not receive any official intimation about this from ICL. Kataria said, in the notice, the ICL was given two days to explain as to how the tournament was conducted without prior permission.

Said ICL official, Abheshek Aggarwal, “As there was last minute re-scheduling and the tournament was scheduled for an earlier date, there was some confusion. we have taken permission from HUDA. We were to receive permission from the Panchkula administration, but it being a weekend, we could not”.
