An Army spokesperson said nine Army personnel were killed in the IED explosion that was triggered by militants at Narbal crossing on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway at around 4:00 pm.
The spokesperson said nearly a dozen other jawans were injured in the blast that ripped through the bus which was taking them to Baramulla from Srinagar.
Unconfirmed reports said the number of injured was more than 30 and the death toll likely to increase.
The impact of the blast was so severe that the bus was reduced to a scrap of iron.
According to a senior police official who visited the spot, the militants had placed the IED by the roadside, taking advantage of the road widening work going on in the area.
Militant outfit Hizbul Mujahiddin has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A caller identifying himself as the spokesman of Hizbul Mujahiddin told a local news agency that its cadres carried out the attack.

Let us not forget that despite all such attacks, which have killed or maimed scores of army men over the last twenty odd years, our army, barring few minor aberrations, has maintain exemplary level of control and restraint. My only regret is that our country and certain elements our film industry has been very ungrateful towards the sacrifices made by our gallant army. Do not go by what people like SAMAR KHANs try to depict. Samar Khan has expressed his prfuse thanks to three stalwarts of film industry. In fact our film industry and media make them out to be merely errant youth and nothing else. Our political leadership does not have time for them and army is thus left to fend for themselves against some glorified babus of IAS. These jawans and officers who have given their life for the country will soon be forgotten I am sure of that. In the recent past how many politician have sent their sons or wards to the armed forces. And these same people show concern at shortage of leaders and officers in the armed forces. None of the members from our elite Nehru Gandhi family will ever have courage to send their children to armed forces. Shame on them.
Let the Hijbul Mujahideen rest assured that the Army will avenge these murders, at a place and time of their own choosing. And, the vengeance will be extracted with high interest added. The Army has fought the Mujahideen and their ilk for 61 long years without flagging and will continue to do so for as long as is necessary in the future.
Seeing how low our politicians have fallen I think it is better that army takes over the control of the government itself and rule for 5 years to put some order and integrity, that will be 100 times better than the current UPA government, full of shady elements and corrupt and dubious personalities.

It is not politicians alone but what about biased and insensitive media?There was so much hue and cry when lives of two children were lost drowned near a hindu ashram,but when so many lives of our previous soldiers are lost there is no condolences, synpathy or debate on terrorism in kashmir,etc in any major news channel or print media. Mr. D'Souza, do not cry for soldiers in India. Where I live even the soldiers of first world war are remembered and every year the Head of the State and Prime Minister go to the statue of unknown soldier and put flowers and whole ceremony is broadcast live, people stand in silence to mourn their dead soldiers. It is easy to educate yourself about kashmir if you are inclined. Goes back to my comment about homework. Mainstream simply means uniformity in ideas beliefs practices and a feeling of emphaty and caring for your brethren which only islam espouses, not just limited to India, but the whole globe. Havent you seen image when during Haj in Makkah Sharif people bowing in submission to Allah SWT in unison. There are several examples of this unity - Kumbh mela; Christmas celebrations, but masked by fundametalism he can see nothing except Islam. The main danger of huge illegal immigration from Pakistan and Bangladesh is that many of them are able to penetrate law enforcement agencies and also become lawmakers in many states like J-K, Tripura, Assam, West Bengal. I am sure such menace will not remain confined to these bordering states in near future. Once these illegal immigrants get political power in centre and many more crucial states, it will create a real havoc in the country. This menace is more dangerous than Islamic terrorism itself for our national security (although both are very intimately connected for India at this stage). And I a worried that our current political leadership is oblivious to this great danger and still playing the minority appeasement cards for vote bank politics.

I am sorry to post the item in this forum but I am trying to make peoiple aware. Try to avoid any Reliance product. That whole company is based on cheating its customer and its employees. I agree with ur views. Hindus will be outnumbered in few years in India. I am waiting for the moment when we will realize it but not sure weather we will realize it or not, till now we haven't and had lost vast area of our land to muslims.
